Alpinestars Newman Overshirt (SOLD OUT)

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, so selecting a size is basically pretty easy. The size Medium and XL jackets fit Huey and Dewey, our Fit Check mannequins very nicely! Also, we checked several sizes with a tape. We found the sizing to be comparable to standard men’s clothing sizes. So our primary advice would be to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). You can use this size chart to check your own measurements against the size chart to make sure the size you select will work. Choose a size that is big enough for both your chest and belly. The max belly of this overshirt is only a couple inches smaller than the max chest so it shouldn’t pose a problem for most.

The new Alpinestars Newman Overshirt is a good looking alternative to a traditional textile motorcycle jacket. This overshirt has protective features like other jackets but is styled like a simple canvas shirt. It comes with armor in the shoulders and elbows as standard and a back protector is available.

REVIT has been making overshirts like this one for several seasons and they’ve become quite popular. Now Alpinestars has come out with a competing design. I really like the trim and tailored look of this shirt. The fabric is high quality and is on par with the better overshirts such as those by REVIT, and the pricing is competitive too. There are MANY cheaper overshirts made of cotton with a liner reinforcement, but I really like this style where the shell fabric is made to hold up to a slide. Other basic design features are here too such as a main front zipper situated behind the front snaps to hold the shirt closed in case of a fall (buttons alone won’t stay closed). And the collar tips have snaps too which will hold them down in the wind as you ride (without snaps they flap against your neck!). The front chest has two patch-style pockets and there is also a chest zippered pocket that has a waterproof zipper and waterproof pocket liner. Nowhere does it say specifically the pocket is waterproof, but I bet it’s close.

The inside of the overshirt is fully lined in sturdy poly/cotton material. There are loops on the liner down low in back to connect to your jeans or belt. Also in the liner are two large patch pockets to hold your things.

The armor supplied with this jacket is a new Nucleon Flex Plus Level 1 armor in shoulders and elbows. Please visit our armor department where this armor is sold separately if you are interested in a more detailed description, but just briefly the armor is a very flexible and low profile design that sits flatter on the body and is less noticeable than traditional molded rubber armor. The jacket has a pocket for an optional back protector. I’ve listed the Nucleon type options below. You’ll find MANY details on the back protector product pages, but for this jacket, I’d recommend the Nucleon KR-CELLi model for its lighter weight.

I do like this style overall. It looks tailored and doesn’t have any overt badging. And the style is very neutral so it could work for any style rider. :: Paul, 06-09-20
