Sizing Information

We measured and tried on a number of sizes in this jacket and found them to fit as expected. I’d encourage you to order the size you normally wear in men’s clothing for sizes Small through XL, and since there is limited standardization on fit above XL, I’d recommend those who wear larger sizes to measure their chest and belly and choose based on the chart I’ve put together below. If you find yourself between sizes, I’d encourage you to order the smaller.

Those with large bellies will love this style. The proportions are generous through the lower torso… for each size, the belly is about 2” smaller than the chest, but on each side of the jacket are expansion zippers that go way up, almost to the armpit and when open will another 4” or so to the max belly! But also, there are side waist adjustment straps to snug down the mid-torso area for those with slimmer lines. VERY versatile!

Here is a chart we put together with approximate max chest and belly sizes for every “alpha” size. You can use this chart to choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements.

Size Max Chest Max Belly Max Belly
(with side zips open)
Small 40 38 42
Medium 42 40 44
Large 44 42 46
XL 46 44 48
XXL 50 48 52
XXXL 54 52 56
XXXXL 58 56 60

Note: This chart mirrors Fly’s official size chart for sizes XL and above, but shows larger sizes than Fly’s chart for smaller sizes. Their chart for the smaller sizes is not accurate.

Our Two Cents

The Fly Racing CoolPro jacket is for hot weather comfort. This jacket is mesh and will flow a lot of air. Armor is included for the shoulders and elbows and the simple foam back pad can be upgraded. A removable rain/wind liner is included.

Recently I reviewed the Fly Racing AirRaid jacket and I find this model to be very similar except this jacket seems to have a more flexible fit and the overall cut is not quite as sport oriented. The side zips are really helpful for those that have a big belly. The belly expansion allows you to get into a jacket that fits your chest and shoulders well and one that also has room for the belly. Those side expansion zips, when closed, makes the jacket fit just about like jackets that DON’T have the zips, so I think it is a really flexible design. And if you have ideas about either growing or reducing your belly, this jacket would be ideal.

Hot summer weather is the design focus here, and for wet weather, a removable rain liner included. The rain liner can be used in a mesh jacket like this to be a wind blocker too. With the rain liner in use, you could layer underneath with your own clothes to make this style work in spring and fall too. But the summer is really the main idea.

The jacket has the standard armor setup… CE protectors in the shoulders and elbows and a thin foam back pad as standard. Fly doesn’t offer a CE rated back protector upgrade, but I find that our most popular upgrade back protector by D3O fits the mesh pocket in this style very well. The men’s size back pad in either Level 1 or 2 fits. Although you can opt for either level 1 or level 2 as an upgrade, I’d recommend the Level 1 unit as being the most comfortable and practical for a lighter duty jacket like this.

Other features include: a short rear zipper for attachment to Fly pants and there is also a loop you can use to anchor the tail down to your belt if you aren’t wearing motorcycle-specific pants; night time reflectives for night time visibility and a nice selection of pockets for storage.

You can adjust the fit if this jacket with the waist/Velcro tabs at the waist and also the snaps on the sleeves. And you can tighten the sleeves up to help hold the elbow armor in position and to reduce any wind flap.

I like the simple design of this jacket and I find the price to be very attractive too. :: Paul, 07-09-19
