Sizing Information

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes. Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below).

This jacket is a sport cut, which is designed to fit snug and close to the body. We tried a size Medium and XL on our fit check mannequins Huey and Dewey fit good and look good, but they don’t have much extra room.

If you like a very trim fit, then you’ll like this style in the size you normally wear in men’s clothing, but if you prefer a more “American” fit or you are between sizes, I’d recommend you choose a size larger than you usually wear. And since this jacket has a pretty trim fit, you’ll also want to check your belly (if you have one) and make sure the jacket size you pick is big enough for your mid-section as well as your chest.

Note: If you plan to add back or chest armor you’ll need to add to your measurements before selecting a size from the chart. Add 1” to your chest and back measurement for a back protector and another inch to your chest for a pair of chest protectors.

Jacket Size Chest Range Waist/Belly Range
Small 37.5 to 39 32 to 36
Medium 40 to 42 35 to 39
Large 42 to 44 37 to 41
XL 44 to 46 39 to 43
XXL 47 to 49 42 to 46
XXXL 49 to 51 43 to 47
XXXXL 51.5 to 53 45 to 49

Our Two Cents

The Alpinestars T-SP X Superair jackets are the spiritual successor to the Viper Air line of jackets.

The T-SP X Superair is a mostly mesh jacket chassis with textile overlays in key impact areas and at the waist. This combination of materials allows the jacket to flow air freely while not sacrificing anything when it comes to protection. The overall styling of this jacket is sporty, though not as aggressive as the predecessor Viper Air which more closely mimics the styling of their leather jackets and also had a more significant drop from chest to waist measurements. You do have dual hook and loop waist adjusters that can still get that trim look if you need it though. There are also hook and loop adjusters at the cuff and a hook and loop collar stay. Overall the Superair is slightly oversized compared to earlier Alpinestars textile/mesh jackets but it is also Tech-Air 5 ready and between that and the compartments for optional chest and back protection (see related products below) I think they have the sizing just about right for the US market.

The armor in the shoulder and elbows is the ultra-thin and flexible Alpinestars Nucleon Flex Plus which is rated at CE level 1, and you will hardly even notice it is in there! The jacket has two zippered hand pockets at the belly and two internal hook and loop pockets. One note on the back and chest protection pockets : they are accessible via a short zipper at the back of the waist. The back and shoulder have dark reflective material that adds style and visibility.

The Alpinestars T-SP X Superair jacket is a great option for the sport or urban rider that is looking for a durable mesh jacket with just a little bit of styling splashed in (the blue looks great in person!). The jacket is meant for warm to hot weather. :: Mike, 07/27/2022
