Arai Cheek Pads For Defiant Helmets

  • Riders will sometimes need to change the cheek pads that come installed in their helmets. Some people need a little more or less space, while others simply need to install a fresh set of pads for better comfort (and smell)
  • The pads both come out and can be installed quite easily
  • Use the chart below to figure out what size cheek pad you currently have based on your helmet size, and then pick a replacement set based on your need

You’ll see a choice of “regular” pads and “EcoPure” pads. The two types are physically the same, but in 2016 Arai developed a new “EcoPure pad” which uses a slightly different cover material and it is claimed to maintain a neutral pH level close to the skin.

Please look at the gallery pictures to determine whether your helmet has the regular pads or the EcoPure. We recommend the EcoPure for ALL replacement purposes, but if you want the fabric texture/color to match your helmet’s interior, you can order the regular replacement pads (if still available).

Sizing Information

Use this table to determine what cheek pad size you currently have. Please note that Defiant helmets manufactured in January 2014 and later have different size cheek pads than those manufactured prior to that.

Helmet Size 01/14 Mfg Date & Future Cheek Pad Size 12/13 Mfg Date & Prior Cheek Pad Size
XXS 35mm 30mm
XS 30mm 25mm
Small 30mm 25mm
Medium 30mm 25mm
Large 25mm 20mm
XL 25mm 20mm
XXL 25mm 20mm
XXXL 20mm 15mm

You can buy the same thickness of cheek pad if you like the fit of your helmet and just need a replacement set. Or you can buy a different thickness cheek pad to adjust fit as all the cheek pads are interchangeable between the different helmet sizes. In addition to the cheek pad thicknesses listed above, there is an optional 15mm pad.

Changing cheek pads to change the helmet fit: To get MORE room in your helmet, you need to buy a SMALLER cheek pad. To get a TIGHTER fit, you need to buy a LARGER cheek pad. Example: If you have a size Large Defiant helmet that was manufactured after January 2014, you have cheek pads that measure 25mm. If the helmet is too tight on you, a 15 or 20mm pad would give you more room.

Our Two Cents

Before you buy a set of replacement cheek pads, keep in mind that the pads that came with your helmet have a “micro-fit” feature that allows you to peel away a 5mm thickness of foam, which may be all you need to make those pads more comfortable. Try the peel away option first, and if they’re still too tight, we’re happy to sell you a replacement set.
