Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit very well. This is a relaxed cut jacket so the body doesn’t taper a lot from chest to waist. The fit of this jacket is very easy, so I’d advise you to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

You can also use the chart below to choose a size based upon your chest and/or belly/waist measurements. I added an estimated “max belly” measurement too. Like I said above, this is a relaxed style so most people won’t have trouble with the belly size (like they might with a trim sport style), but if you have a bit of a belly it wouldn’t hurt to put a tape around it and make sure you are OK with the size you’ve chosen.

Size Max Chest Max Belly Sleeve Length (from center of collar in back)
Small 36-38 36 32
Medium 38-42 38 33
Large 42-44 42 34
XL 44-46 44 35
XXL 46-48 46 36
XXXL 48-50 48 37

Our Two Cents

The Hat Trick II jacket is an improved model over the original Hat Trick. The “trick” to the Hat Trick jacket has to do with the liner system. The outer shell of the jacket is a part-mesh/part-textile construction which, by itself, will be comfortable in warm to hot weather. And the jacket includes two separate liners that can be installed together or separately as needed. The first liner is a lightweight wind/water-resistant liner much like those found in other mesh jacket designs. The second liner is a thicker (but not too bulky) insulated liner. The ability to use both of the liners at once or just one at a time makes this jacket suitable for just about any riding conditions. For example, in summer you could use the jacket without any liners, or add the windproof liner for a cool morning or traveling over a mountain pass. And then in spring and fall, you could use the lightly insulated liner for a bit more warmth. And then finally, when temps drop, the combination of both liners will both block the wind and provide a bit of insulation too. For protection the shoulders and elbows come with removable CE approved armor, and there is also a removable foam backpad. There are large reflective panels on the front and the back of this jacket for really good nighttime visibility. We’ve taken some “night shots” to show you that those reflective panels do work very well. Just take the “View Larger Images” link above to see those. To help prevent the jacket from riding up in the tucked riding position there is a small strap in the back of the jacket that can be attached to your belt loops. I think a jacket style like this offers a lot of flexibility for riders that live in areas with all four seasons. And if you are the type to like the one-jacket-does-it-all approach, then this might just be the one! :: Paul, 06-05-13
