Sizing Information

We tried on a selection of Forma boots here in the office and found the length to be about right. The width on the boots is a touch more wide than most other brands we carry. Alpinestars and TCX tend to be the most wide, but these might even be a touch wider. I’d say they are a D to E and might even work for somebody with a slightly wider foot (but don’t get carried away and think they are wide enough for a person needing a EEE or wider). So my advice would be to use the chart below to choose a size based upon your US shoe size.

Forma offers advice on choosing a size from your foot measurement. Here’s how:

1) Measure the overall length of your foot. Forma recommends placing your heel against a wall and measuring from the wall to the end of your longest toe.

2) Add 3/4” to the length of your foot

3) Using Forma’s sizing chart below, choose the smallest size boot with an insole measurement that is at least the length of your foot plus 3/4”.

Use Forma’s size selection method as a “second opinion”. Maybe you’ll find it reassuring if it matches your size choice based on street shoe size or, maybe it could be a tie breaker if you are undecided between two sizes. FWIW, Forma’s advice didn’t work for me since I have relatively short toes. I wear a 45 (known from trying on) and this method put me in a 42.

Our Two Cents

The Kumo shoes from Forma are a technical style rider sneaker that are designed for the casual and urban rider. Overall construction of the Kumo is a combination of a highly durable and technical textile upper, a Forma Moto specific sole, a padded tongue with an extra comfort collar, a fast lace statement with reinforced eyelets, soft polymer internal padding with memory foam, an air mesh internal lining for breathability, as well as an anti-bacterial and replaceable footbed. For protection, the Kumo’s feature a gear shift pad, PORON® XRD® protection at the ankles, a reinforced heel and toe, as weak as a dual flex shank with an anti-shock EVA midsole. This overall combination has earned the Kumo shoes a CE 1-1-1-2 rating.

The Forma Kumo shoes retail for $189.99 at the time of this review and feature an easy casual fit overall. Two color options are available, a simple black, or an olive and black combination (it does feature gray as well, and I would argue that the olive is more towards another shade of gray against a true olive). The average weight for boot is 1.6 pounds. Overall these are some of the easiest shoes/boots that I have ever put on period! Not just Moto, but I literally mean period! The fast lace system works flawlessly and makes getting in and out a breeze. Comfort wise you can’t go wrong here as they feel great and are sort of mix between a hiking boot and a high top basketball shoe, but yet somehow more comfortable. I honestly have nothing to complain about with them. Also a bonus, is that they can easily pass for a normal shoe.

The only slight drawback here is that their CE rating is a 1-1-1-2, don’t get me wrong, they are still CE rated, meaning they are protective, and leaps and bounds better than your normal shoes, but if you were looking for top of the line safety, the Kumo were not designed for that, they were designed with more comfort and casual looks in mind. Still with that said, with what they were designed to accomplish they exceeded it and are still a really good looking, comfortable and protective pair of riding shoes.

I want to point out real quick that previously my experience with Forma wasn’t as extensive as some of the other brands that I would consider myself somewhat of an expert in, so I sat down and checked out a good number of Forma boots and shoes in a row, all of different styles and types, and shoe after shoe, boot after boot, I was impressed, it was like Forma just couldn’t miss. I’m quickly familiarizing myself more and more with this brand and I have to say they are quickly rising up my list of favorite boot/shoe brands. Really great work here, and if you are not familiar with them yet, I highly recommend checking them out! :: Damir 8/22/24
