Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. You can also measure your chest and belly and choose a size from the chart from the “Our Max Chest” and “Our Max Belly” columns making sure the size you choose is big enough for both. Sleeve lengths are average to generous and should work for most people.

Note: For reference, we’ve listed the max chest estimate given by Icon in their standard sizing chart. If you follow their chart using your measured chest size, you’ll likely choose a size larger than you normally wear (example a person with a 46 chest typically is an XL, but using Icon’s chart you’d buy an XXL). We’ve noticed that Icon under-estimates the size of their jackets and has done so for years (no idea why), so we advise you to follow our advice instead.

The overall fit of this jacket is “average”... not too trim and not too loose. On each side of the torso at the waist are very functional size adjusters to snug down the waist for those who are more trim than the max belly estimates for each size. Also, the jackets have some sturdy adjusters for both the bicep and forearm areas to snug the sleeves down to prevent flapping and to hold the armor in position.

Our Two Cents

The Contra 2 Leather jacket is new for 2020. This jacket is offered in two versions… the (solid) Leather version sold on this product page and the Perforated leather version (take the link below to view). Both jackets are a combination of heavy duty textile and leather. The Perforated Leather version is best suited for mild to hot weather use where the (solid) Leather jacket works better for mild to cold weather temps. Both version share nearly all the same features, for example both come with a removable thermal liner and a full set of D3O armor including a back protector so there is nothing else to buy for either jacket. Both jacket are suitable to zip to the Contra 2 leather sport overpants to make a functional 2pc riding suit. Take the link below to view the pants.

Icon has made a number of leather/textile combination jackets and pant combos over the years. The leather and textile materials used in this gear is top notch and very heavy duty. D3O armor is included and is a premium product. One of the things I like about the combo jackets is the lighter weight which makes is more practical for everyday street use. Using textile in parts of the jacket rather than all-leather reduces the overall weight considerably. It also makes it possible to get more air flow through the jacket. You can only do so much with perforations on a full leather jacket to make it bearable in warmer weather, but with a combination of fabric and leather you can really got some good air flow going.

I’m struck by the overall reasonable price of these jackets. Under $300 with full armor is a bargain if you ask me. And for that reasonable price, you get a lot of upscale styling features too. For example, both versions have a good looking molded ICON logo and front and matching “I” logos on the shoulders. And there are lots of premium night time reflective materials too. All the zippers and hardware are very nice too.

Take a look at the close-up pictures on this product page and also of the other version and you’ll be able to see the differences. The Perforated jacket has some perforations in the leather panels of course, but the whole lower front and back features perforated textile material too. And the sides of the torso are mesh materials. The “solid” jacket choice has solid leather, solid textile and solid stretch material on the sides of the torso. The solid jacket has zip vents in the front shoulder area and rear exhaust vents in back to allow some adjustability with air flow (but the zip vents won’t compare to the Perforated version in summer). Both versions have “two way” zippers on the sleeve ends which makes zip vents to shoot some air up your sleeves. So choose your version based upon your climate. For those who live in warmer climates and expect to ride in hot summer temps, then clearly choose the perforated version, but if you live in a more moderate climate and/or you expect to use the jacket in cold months too, then go with the solid jacket. One thing about a Perforated jacket like this, you can’t turn off the A/C in cold weather like you can with the solid version. Both versions come with a removable vest liner you can use to make the jacket work when temps drop lower than your usual. :: Paul, 05-19-20

Icon says: Pushing the boundaries of what you come to expect from a leather jacket, your favorite features of the Contra 2™ jacket can now be found on a durable leather and textile chassis. Our ICON ® sport fit comes equipped with pre curved arms and is combined with a ratchet waist closure, providing a tailored fit. The front, back, and cuff vents along with the anti-flap arm straps are just a few of the creature comforts in this feature-rich jacket. A removable insulated liner adds modularity, and the TPU chest badging provides the classic ICON steeze. Industry-leading D3O® shoulder, elbow, and back impact protectors come standard.
