Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. We found this style to run noticeably smaller than other Oxford jackets and small compared to other US sized gear. Most people will have to buy at least one size larger than they normally wear to find a fit.

Due to the sizing issue of this model, I’d recommend you measure your chest and belly and make a size selection based upon the chart below. You’ll want to choose a size that will be big enough for both your chest and belly. Oxford publishes a standard sizes chart and you’ll find Oxford’s chart to list chest sizes that are smaller than normal men’s jackets, but this jacket runs even smaller than Oxfords chart by about a half size.

This jacket has side waist adjusters on the waist band you can use to snug the waist down to fit.

This jacket comes with a simple foam back pad and you can upgrade the back protector if you like, but I don’t think there is any need to up-size.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Max Belly
Small 37 34
Medium 39 36
Large 41 38
XL 43 40
XXL 45 42
XXXL 47 44
XXXXL 49 46
XXXXXL 51 48

Our Two Cents

The Route 73 leather jacket from Oxford is a stylish leather jacket for all types of riding. The quilted shoulders give this jacket a sharp retro look.

The leather used in this jacket is goat, which is kind of unusual. We usually see goat used frequently in gloves but rarely in jackets. In feeling the leather, I really can’t detect much difference in it and a typical cow jacket. I will say the leather feels more pliable and softer than most cowhide jackets. After break in, I bet this one will feel very comfortable.

I like the overall styling of this jacket. The quilting and padding on the shoulders look great. And I also like the exposed metal zippers and the snap closures used in the waist adjusters. The whole package would look great on somebody with a retro inspired bike (or a retro guy on a new bike??). Be sure and take a look at our sizing advice. One fit feature I really like on this or any other leather jacket is the “action back”. There are a couple of pleats built into the leather behind the shoulders to give some room when you reach forward for the controls. For some reason, this particular style from Oxford runs small.

This is a solid leather jacket style, so the climate control options are pretty limited. There are no vents, so wearing this one in the summer wouldn’t be comfortable. But there is a removable vest-style thermal liner which could give some added insulation in colder weather. You could also layer with your own thermal shirt in the winter. So I’d recommend this one for cold to mild weather. Wet weather is a hard no. I doubt this leather would take a soaking and come out looking as good as it does now.

The armor in the shoulders and elbows are standard issue CE level 1 rubberized, molded units, which are flexible and comfortable. The jacket has a compartment for an optional back protector. The jacket comes from the factory with a thin foam pad, more or less as a placeholder. You can take the link below to order an optional back protector. For the low cost of the back protector, I’d recommend it.

You can zip this jacket to Oxford pants with the short rear zip which is included. Also, there is a wide band of reflective material on the back across the shoulders. :: Paul, 08-16-19
