We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and we developed a size chart to help you choose a size based upon your waist and inseam. The size chart below is partially ours and partially REV’IT’s chart. REV’IT hasn’t been consistent in their sizing for pants, so we have to check every model for you. The largest waist size listed in the chart are with the waist adjusters full open. The waist size adjustment straps work pretty well to give you size adjustability… we estimate about 2” as the range indicates.
As you can see in the chart, the pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, so choose the inseam you normally wear in slacks or jeans. The pants also have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length) which can be accessed by pulling each leg inside out (see our photo gallery for a pic of this). Velcro allows you to set the armor in different spots and you can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position seems best.

Measurement tip: With a style like this that MAY be used as an overpant, you’ll want to measure your waist over the clothing you intend to wear under the pants. And measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles (so relying just upon the size jeans you buy might result in motorcycle pants that are too small). Right below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement.
Our Two Cents
REV’IT’s new Outback pants are probably the most flexible with regard to climate control of any of their pants. There is a lot going on here and we’ll tear them down for you, but in a nutshell, this is a solid textile style, primarily to be worn over underwear (not an overpant) with a dual liner system… a rain liner and a thermal liner. And they also have vents for use in warmer weather.
The pants have a short zipper at the bottom of the leg which comes up to about the top of the calf. It will help you get a leg through the pants, but it is really there only for that convenience, and wouldn’t be ideal as an overpant because it is not fitted with the full length side zippers that overpants generally have. But a “dedicated” pant like this can do some things better than overpants… they generally have a more trim fit and when fitted with a waterproof liner, can have a better shot at being truly waterproof since a side zipper in the waterproof liner isn’t necessary. Overpants with a dual liner setup like this can become pretty complicated!
The waterproof and thermal liners together are pretty darn substantial and would make these among the most warm, non-electric riding pants I’ve seen in a while. The rain liner of course is there to keep the water out should it rain, but it will also block the wind and make the thermal liner that much more effective. Both liners secure at the waist and the leg ends with full around zippers (many have just button/loop arrangements) and those full zips will keep everything conveniently in place with no loose ends.
With both liners out, and in warmer weather, you can use the two front zip vents to admit some air to make them more comfortable. And while these vents won’t make the pants perform like mesh styles for really hot weather, they’ll be better than nothing and they will make these pants ALMOST a four season pant.
There is a lot to like about REV’IT pants… I like the very secure slide lock waist closure… it isn’t going to pop open on you! And I like the wide, well constructed side waist adjusters. The armor is also nice. The knees are standard CE rated units (see our photo gallery) and the hips are the very thin Seesmart pieces which are thin and flexible…so important in pants since when you sit, that whole area gets folded up.
