Sizing Information

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, so selecting a size is basically pretty easy. The size Medium and XL jackets fit Huey and Dewey, our Fit Check mannequins very nicely! Also, we checked several sizes with a tape. We found the sizing to be comparable to standard men’s clothing sizes. So our primary advice would be to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). You can use this size chart to check your own measurements against the size chart to make sure the size you select will work. Choose a size that is big enough for both your chest and belly.

The max waist of a jacket style like this is only a couple inches smaller than the max chest, so the style is very forgiving in case you have a bit of a belly, but don’t be concerned if your belly is smaller than the size listed below because this jacket has effective side waist adjustment straps.

Jacket Size Chest Range Waist/Belly Range
Small 38 36
Medium 41 39
Large 43 41
XL 46 44
XXL 49 47
XXXL 51 49
XXXXL 53 51

Our Two Cents

The T-Faster Air jacket is a sport styled, but more casually cut jacket for hot summer months. Its almost fully mesh so it ought to be comfortable in the hottest months of the year. I comes with outstanding armor options.

The T-Faster air jacket is not as snug as a lot of other Alpinestars sport jackets. A full mesh jacket doesn’t have to fit as close to the body as a leather or textile jacket (because mesh can’t inflate like solid fabrics), and so being a more forgiving fit is appropriate for a full mesh jacket like this. Most people will find this jacket to be very comfortable in the very hottest weather of the years. And it will also work for mild weather, so for most, it will be a two season jacket… all summer and then a half season in the spring and fall.

So even though this is a “standard” street jacket style, it has armor options similar to sport and race jackets from Alpinestars. Firstly, you get CE-certified level 1 Bio armor shoulders and elbow protectors. Bio Armor is Alpinestars “standard” protectors for street jackets. This jacket also includes chest and back protection capability. There are two chest pad compartments in front and the traditional back pad compartment. The jacket comes standard with thin foam “place holder” armor pieces, but you can upgrade those with CE certified units (see the links below). Most will opt for the level one back pad and chest protectors although there is a level 2 back pad available as well. This jacket also has the anchor point for the larger KR-R back protector is typically an accessory for track use, so I don’t anticipate many people opting for something like that, but it is an option. We’ve got good descriptions of both, so just click through the links to consider those options.

The sport styling of this jacket is traditional Alpinestars with the big “a-star” logo in front and in back. There are also some nice reflectives for night time visibility. You’ll notice this jacket is one of the most price competitive sport/mesh jackets of the group and even though it is “entry level” priced, you still get all the high end armor options, so I think this one is a pretty darn good value. :: Paul, 05-24-18
