Our Two Cents

The Sportech Cranker Tank Bag is a unique item featuring an integrated amplifier and speaker that can be powered by a direct connect lead to the motorcycle battery (all necessary cords included) or 4 AA batteries. By now I’m sure you’re wondering how good this speaker really is, we were too. We road tested it on a Kawasaki ZRX1100 with a D&D full system exhaust and no windscreen, this motorcycle is not quiet. Powered by 4 AA batteries, volume all the way up it sounded decent at 50 mph, at 70 mph it started to fade and at 80 mph there was basically nothing. Sportech advertises this tank bag as having “Three high powered magnets”, I disagree, the magnets are fairly weak. Road tested on the ZRX1100 with no windscreen at 85 mph and the bag didn’t move so motorcycles with full front fairings and windscreens should not have a problem with the bag staying in place. Sportech also includes straps for additional mounting security and for use on non magnetic tanks. This is not a large tank bag, the speaker takes up a good amount of interior space as well so it won’t hold much. The bottom part of the bag opens as if it were the lid which is a bummer if you are transporting items beyond what the interior pockets can hold. The way this bag opens also means the zipper pull tabs make contact with the tank and these are plastic pull tabs, not a soft material. There are interior channels to run cords from the amplifier to the MP3 compartment and an exterior port for the quick connect battery cable. Although there are a few minor design flaws (in my opinion) this tank bag has it’s place and would be a great way to drown out the noise while riding through the city.
