Our Two Cents

The New Land Gore-Tex boot by Alpinestars combines the serious waterproofing afforded by genuine Gore-Tex in a shorter height boot. Many riders like a shorter boot like this because of the ease in getting them on and off and the increased comfort for wearing off the bike. These boots are cut low in back so that you have a lot of freedom when walking, but the front of the ankle and a bit up the shin bone are covered. Of course, the Gore-Tex liner gives the ultimate in waterproofing and breathability, and of course it also is a bit more expensive than other boots with “house brand” waterproofing materials. Worth it? Well many people sure think so because a lot of Gore-Tex boots are sold every year for a noticeably higher price. If you take the “View Larger Images” link above you’ll see some shots of the height of the boot. Please note that the interior gaiter across the opening of the boot only covers up to right about to the top of the foot, so if you have rain gear to shed water from there down, you’ll be OK to keep water out, but don’t step in any deep (or even not-so-deep) puddles or you’ll be swamped, but I guess that is one of the trade-offs of a shorter height boot like this. Anyway, the overall looks of this boot are very nice. It is a blend of sport and touring that should appeal to just about anybody. The molded soles have enough stiffness to hold up when bearing down on pegs, but give enough to make them usable off the bike. The wide band that goes around the shin bone is heavily padded for protection and there are molded armor pieces on each side of the ankle bone. The heel and toe areas are reinforced and there is a hard rubber panel over where your shifter will be contacting the boot. Overall, a very nice style with quality construction and of course the genuine Gore-Tex liner. :: Paul, 04-15-13

Update: There is a non-Gore Tex version of this boot now called the Gunner WP. Please take the link below to see my comments and the pricing. 02-24-14
