Buy a jacket in the same size you normally buy men’s clothes (like your tee shirt/jacket size).
Here is a simple chart to help you choose an “alpha” size based upon your chest size. Measure just over a shirt, but not your gear. The rain jackets are already pre-oversized assuming you’d wear them over riding apparel:

Our Two Cents
What better time to be wearing a complete hi-viz rainsuit than when it’s, errr, raining, right? Being seen is a lot more important than being concerned about looking like a tennis ball. Anyway, that is what this rain gear is all about. The Sierra Day Glo Jacket and Pants are very much like other FirstGear rain suits but with visibility as the main features. We sell the jacket separately on this product page, but I’ll tell you about both: The jacket and pants are made of a higher quality polyester/nylon blend (PVC is the material used in cheaper suits). The material used on this jacket feels more like fabric as opposed to the plastic/rubber feel of PVC and it is lighter and packs smaller. The jacket has adjustable closers at the wrists and bicep areas and elastic cord in the tail to help keep the material under control in the wind. The main zipper of this jacket is constructed with a dual flap to help prevent leakage. A hood is included—hidden under the collar. For stowage, you can ball up the jacket in its own integral storage pouch. The pants have some pretty nice features too (take the link at the bottom of this page to buy): They have elastic at the waist and have two longish side zippers to help you put the pants on over clothes and boots. There is an elasticized band at the ankle to seal them over boots too. There is one waterproof pocket on the thigh. And like the jacket, the pants stow away in their own little pouch which is included. Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see the features described here. :: Paul, 04-23-12
