Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these pants and the waist band measurements match the stated pant size. I’d advise you to take a measurement of your waist to see how big you are. Many jeans are “vanity sized” meaning they measure out bigger than their stated size, so if you order based upon your jeans size alone, you might get a pair that is too small. Also measure a bit higher on your waist just under the navel because motorcycle pants like this ride a little higher on your body than most jeans. These pants are designed as overpants which means you’ll have the option to wear them over street clothes, so when you measure, you’ll want to measure over the clothes you anticipate wearing under them.

The inseam on the pants is about 34 to 35” for pants in the middle of the size range, 33-34” for the smaller sizes and 35-36” for the larger sizes. The knee armor is HIGHLY adjustable in the pants so you will be able to adjust the armor to hit your kneecap correctly when seated on the bike (motorcycle pant knee armor will fall below the idea position when standing so don’t judge the position while standing). And the pants are constructed to facilitate easy hemming. You could shorten the leg ends 4” or so with little trouble. What a nice feature!

The pants have more of a tapered leg than I would expect in a pant that has some features leaning toward adventure/off road use because people who ride like that sometimes have big bulky boots and need a wider leg. The end of this pant is about 16” diameter (in the size 36 waist) which is about 8” across when laid flat. Some might welcome a more tapered leg is you don’t wear the big boots, but if you do, you may want to measure a pair of pants you already have at the cuff end to see if this size pant leg will work for you.

Our Two Cents

The X Moto 2 Pant from Olympia are a very functional pant for most weather and even wet weather. They have styling cues found on pants for Adventure riding or off road riding, but really, these pants would for for any kind of riding. These pants have a waterproof liner that can go under or over the pants and they have LARGE zippered vents for warm weather use. They are also fitted with side zippers so they function as overpants.

Each leg of these pants is fitted with very large zip-close panel and when you zip it open, there is free flow mesh material exposed to the wind. That panel folds neatly down into a storage area behind the knee so you don’t have to keep up with it. With the zipper panel closed, they function like solid textle pants so you can use the pants for a good three seasons… maybe even four if you have a garment to layer underneath.

The pants have the long side zippers so you can use these as overpants or just your main pant if you like. The side zippers are rugged and are installed all the way from the cuff to the waist band, so when you open up those zippers, you’ll easily be able to step into/out of the pants even with boots on. This construction is favored by commuters for the convenience. Those long side zips are covered with a Velcro-close double storm flap to keep rain from coming through the zippers.

The pants come with a rain liner. The pants are designed to be “over or under” meaning you can wear them over the pants or underneath. A lot of summer pants come with a removable rain liner than zips into the waist and is designed to go only underneath, so the “over or under” concept is a unique feature to Olympia. Looking at the design of the rain liner, I think you’ll opt to wear them over the pants in case of rain or to use them as a wind block. I say that for two reason… firstly, the rain pants don’t have a full length zipper like the pants and so you’ll lose the “overpant” functionality if you wear them under. Also wearing them over in the rain will keep the pants dry (as well as everything in your pockets)

The styling queue that says “off road” to me is that the pants have leather on the inside lower leg. The leather is a common feature in other-than-street riding to give a good wear material that rubs on the bikes parts, and it also give some “grip” so you can man handle the bike with the help of your legs when you are standing on pegs. Another nice advantage to the leather is that it has resistance to heat from a hot pipe that would otherwise melt nylon material. Anyway, the styling tends toward off road, but functionally they’ll work for any style riding. Also, see my notes on the leg opening size in our sizing advice if you wear big boots with buckles.

Other nice features I see are zip close hand pockets in front and two hip pockets with a Velcro close flap. Its nice to have those positive closures on pockets on motorcycle gear so you don’t lose your stuff! Also, the pants have night time reflectives so you’ll be better seen at night. Take the link to our photo gallery to see those. The waist has some “give” with side stretch materials and you can fine tune the fit with a belt because the pants have belt loops. You also get a short rear zip connection that would be compatible with Olympia jackets. That zip comes with the mating half so you could adapt an existing jacket (with the help of a tailor).
