Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these pants and the waist band measurements match the stated pant size. I’d advise you to take a measurement of your waist to see how big you are. Many jeans are “vanity sized” meaning they measure out bigger than their stated size, so if you order based upon your jeans size alone, you might get a pair that is too small. Also measure a bit higher on your waist just under the navel because motorcycle pants like this ride a little higher on your body than most jeans. These pants are designed as overpants which means you’ll have the option to wear them over street clothes, so when you measure, you’ll want to measure over the clothes you anticipate wearing under them.

The inseam on the pants is about 33 to 34” for pants in the middle of the size range, 32-33” for the smaller sizes and 34-35” for the larger sizes. The knee armor is HIGHLY adjustable in the pants so you will be able to adjust the armor to hit your kneecap correctly when seated on the bike (motorcycle pant knee armor will fall below the idea position when standing so don’t judge the position while standing). And the pants are constructed to facilitate easy hemming. You could shorten the leg ends 4” or so with little trouble. What a nice feature!

Our Two Cents

The Olympia 3 is a classic waterproof overpant with a removable thermal liner. You can use these in mild to cold weather and in wet conditions too. With long side zippers they’ll be perfect for those wanting something to wear over their street clothes. These are a simple design but with premium materials that should last a long time.

The entire shell of these pants is made of rugged textile material. And the pants are made waterproof with a laminated waterproof membrane bonded to the back side of textile material. This construction is a step above the standard waterproof pant that uses a separate waterproof membrane between the shell and the lining because the bonded setup means that the outer-shell material is made waterproof and doesn’t get saturated by water. Be aware that waterproof pants like this without venting capabilities will not breath much so consider these pants for three season use… fall, winter and spring. They’ll be cookers in hot weather I’m afraid. But on the bright side, without venting capabilities, the waterproof functionality should be bulletproof. Nearly all waterproof pants with vent features introduce the possibility of leakage no matter how cleverly the vent is built.

The pants have the long side zippers so you can use these as overpants or just your main pant if you like. The side zippers are rugged and are installed all the way from the cuff to the waist band, so when you open up those zippers, you’ll easily be able to step into/out of the pants even with boots on. This construction is favored by commuters for the convenience. Those long side zips are covered with a Velcro-close double storm flap to keep rain from coming through the zippers.

In cold weather, these pants ought to perform very well. They come with a removable inner insulated liner, so with the liner installed, they’ll be great for cold temps too. And the liner has a long side zipper along where the outer shell side zipper is, so if you use the liner, you won’t loose the over-pant capability.

The pants come with a set of hip armor and also knee armor. The knee armor is fully adjustable for height so you can make them fit correctly on you. Also note that the length of the pants is easily hem-able, so those with shorter statures can use the standard pant if you want to take them to a tailor.

Other nice features I see are zip close hand pockets in front, night time reflective piping, side waist adjusters and a short rear zip connection that would be compatible with Olympia jackets. That zip comes with the mating half so you could adapt an existing jacket (with the help of a tailor). Take the link to our photo gallery to see all these features. :: Paul, 11-02-17
