Sizing Information

These pants are sold in US ladies dress sizes. Prior to this year, FirstGear didn’t publish a size chart with measurements for each dress size, but now they do. I spot checked some pants we have in our stock against the chart and happily the measurements line up with the chart very closely. The waist on these pants will stretch a bit because they have elastic on each side of the waist band, and there are also Velcro waist adjusters that will allow you to add just a bit or subtract from the waist size. I’d say the waist design will allow for about 1” larger or 2” inches smaller than the chart indicates. The waist sizes in the chart are consistent with the adjusters in the “neutral” position. If you measure yourself, you’ll want to take those readings over the clothes you’d likely wear under the pants. The pants are not over-sized beyond what the chart says to account for this.

Pant Size Waist Hip Inseam
6 28.5” 37.5” 28.5”
8 29.5” 38.5” 29.5”
10 30.5” 39.5” 30.5”
12 32” 40.5” 31.5”
14 32.5” 42” 32.5”
16 35” 43.5” 33.5”
18 39” 45” 33.5”

Our Two Cents

FirstGear’s HT Overpants for women have been a best seller for as long as we’ve been in this business (and maybe then some). The idea is simple… an overpant that can quickly be pulled on over your street clothes to provide protection from crashing and from the elements, and to keep your street clothes clean. The shell of the pant is made of a heavy weight abrasion resistant material much like you’d find in most textile gear. The pant shell is constructed to keep water out. The zippers are waterproof and/or all openings have double flaps to act as a rain gutter. I’ve shown these features in our photo gallery. Just take the “View Larger Images” link above to see those. The shell being waterproof, and since there are no venting provisions, you’ll want to consider this style for mild to cold and/or wet weather use. You could make short trips in hot weather, but they’ll quickly become uncomfortable. Speaking of cold weather, you get a full length insulated liner which is removable. With the liner in place, and when used over street clothes, these pants should be comfortable down to very low temps. The pants have a front thigh cargo style pocket and a rear zippered billfold pocket in back. It looks like they have two other patch pockets in front but those are actually openings to allow you to reach inside into your regular pants pockets. Clever! For impact protection, there are CE protectors in the knees and foam in the hips. Both are in pockets that Velcro in place and each are adjustable up or down a couple inches so you can get them in a comfortable spot when you are on the bike. For visibility at night, the pants have some good reflectives (see our “night shots” in the photo gallery), and there are a couple heat resistant patches on the insides of the pant legs. Overall, another winner for FirstGear… a beautifully styled pant for ladies that will give lots of practical use. :: Paul, 10-07-13
