Sizing Information

We found that this jacket runs about half a size big, so if you are on the lower end of the scale (or between sizes), we would recommend ordering one size smaller. If you prefer a looser fit or are on the upper side of the size range, order the size you normally wear. The Velcro waist adjustment is fairly flexible in this jacket, we were able to take about 10 inches out of the waist.

Our Two Cents

And now for something completely different…. how about a riding jacket made of hemp? Well, that’s exactly what Joe Rocket has done with the Hemp Jacket (as you may have guessed). If you don’t know what hemp is, you can read about it here. Now, first things first: no, you won’t want to smoke this jacket. According to Joe Rocket’s website, the hemp used in this jacket contains below 0.3% THC, whereas cannabis can exceed 20%. So you’d probably just end up with a major headache instead of a high… With that out of the way, Hemp turns out to actually be pretty good fabric for a riding jacket. Compared to cotton, the fibers are stronger and provide better insulation. Joe Rocket claims that it actually rivals race quality cowhide. On top of that, it feels really good! I noticed right away how light and flexible the material felt, it’s definitely very comfortable. The material almost has a soft canvas feel to it, and should make for a very comfy riding jacket. The interior is lined with a nylon mesh material, as the inside of the hemp is a bit scratchy (barely noticeable through the mesh in the arms – and that may go away after some use). The Hemp jacket looks good too, kind of a classic style that will definitely stand out in the crowd. This jacket should be well suited to cool to warm temps. It includes an insulated vest type liner and Joe Rocket’s very innovative Big Air Ventilation System. The Big Air System consists of a full length torso vent which hides behind the main zipper. Simply unzip the front zipper to reveal mesh material (and another zipper, of course). On the rear there are two zippered exit vents to allow the hot air to escape. This should allow for a good amount of airflow keeping you cool in the warmer times of year. For protection there is a removable foam back pad, as well as CE approved armor for the shoulders and the elbows. This jacket also has some reflective piping across the back of the shoulders for night-time visibility, always a welcome feature. For storage there are two hand warmer pockets and a zippered chest pocket on the exterior, as well as a document pocket and a cargo pocket on the inside. Awesome jacket, I'm 6", 190ish and the fit is comfortable and will fit a heavier sweater underneath if I need it later in the year. The front mesh hidden under the front zipper does a great job of quickly supplying a gust of cooler air when moving.
