Sizing Information

We checked the fit of this jacket and found it to run true to the sizing chart. For the fit test, Laverne and Shirley are standard size 6 and 12 respectively (take the link to see specific chest/waist/hip measurements) and they are wearing sizes Small and Large. As you can see the fit is comfortable and each has a bit of downward adjustability with the Velcro size adjusters. Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see how our test subjects look in their jackets.

We chose the sizes for our Fit Check using the chart below which is provided by Cortech. We suggest you make your selection in the same way. If you are between sizes, then our suggestion would be to choose the smaller. At the time of this writing, Cortech is not providing a conversion from their “alpha” sizes to a women’s dress size. Regarding the Estimated Height given: I think Cortech’s estimates are based upon an “ideal” and are unnecessarily tight, so take those measurements as a guideline only.

Our Two Cents

The LXR Air 2 jacket for women is the second iteration of this model. Functionally it is much the same as previous models but has been upgraded in styling and colors. Also, the jackets have improved nighttime visibility. The sibling model, the GX Sport Air 3 jacket shares much the same feature list, and since I JUST got through describing all its features, I’ll share an excerpt that applies perfectly to the ladies version as well: Most of the shell of this jacket is a loose weave mesh material that will allow air to flow freely through to your skin. In the last 6 or 8 years, the mesh jacket has become the “standard” for hot weather use. Just about anybody who has worn a jacket such as this will tell you that the air flow is so good that it is really better than no jacket at all. Why? Because the jacket acts as protection from sun and wind burn, but doesn’t impede air circulation. Of course a good mesh style will have provisions for cooler weather and/or wet weather and this one does also. It includes a removable windproof/waterproof liner along with a very nice thermal liner. You can use these two liners together for very cold or wet/cold conditions, or use just the waterproof liner in mild/wet weather. And of course, you can take both liners out for hot weather. For impact protection you get elbow and shoulder armor which is a flexible rubber-like armor (also CE approved). And the back pad is a light weight energy absorbing type. To enhance the jacket’s abrasion protection characteristics, there are heavy duty textile overlays on the shoulders and elbows (the most likely impact areas). Overall this is a well constructed jacket that should get you through mild to hot weather months in complete comfort. Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see some good closeups of this jacket and its features, and also have a look at the nighttime shots of this jacket that show off the nighttime reflectivity. Cortech is a brand owned by the same folks that bring us Tour Master, so you will see a lot of similarity between the two brands. The Cortech products are a bit more “sport” oriented where the Tour Master equivalent offers a more relaxed cut. Either way, the jackets offer great style and value and they have a lot of features to keep you safe and comfortable. :: Paul, 10-17-12
