I measured a sampling of these pants and developed a chart to help you choose a size. My best advice would be to measure your waist (just under your belly button) and choose a size based on the measurement. These pants are made to be worn over street clothes, so when you measure, do so over the clothes you think you’ll be wearing under them. The waistband is adjustable down in size by about 2”-4” to help you customize the fit (but doesn’t adjust larger). The large adjustment will help you tune the fit over different clothes
Below is the selection chart I put together based on my measurements. The waist sizes are about two inches larger than other “alpha” sized pants we’ve carried from Icon, and considering these will be worn over your clothes, that makes sense.

Our Two Cents
These Icon Overlord pants are a great choice for people who need a protective pant to wear over their clothes for commuting or touring. The shell material is “solid” textile (not mesh) so these pants will be great for cold to mild weather use.
The overall fit of these pants is “relaxed” which makes them ideal for wearing as an overpant. And they have a long side zipper on the inside of each leg so you can get them on over boots and your street clothes without having to find a place to change clothes. The waist has a neat little “hook” thing to help you snug down the fit to be comfortable. Take a look at our closeup photo to see that. The “hook” side of the buckle is attached to the pant inside the waist belt with elastic, so the pants, even when snugged down, will “give” and be comfortable through the waist.
These pants have knee armor inserts by D3O which is Icon’s “go to” brand of armor. The armor is ideal for pants like this since it is soft and flexible and comfortable. The armor slips in a “triple position” pocket. You can choose which pocket to slip the armor into which places it higher or lower on your leg so you can get a goof fit. I think that is a terrific feature. These pants also have D3O hip armor and it is installed in pockets inside.
I like the overall simplicity of these pants and I think the price is VERY reasonable considering you get the complete set of D3O armor. :: Paul, 05-01-18
Icon says: The Overlord™ overpants are built from a durable textile chassis and are designed to fit over normal pants. They feature internal D3O® impact protectors in the knee along with leg zippers, providing both coverage and the ability for easy on/off. An internal belted waistband provides an adjustable fit.
