Sizing Information

We measured a sampling of these jeans of different waist sizes and lengths and find they are much like other jeans you’d buy these days. They are just a bit “vainity” sized in the waist and pretty true in the length. Across the size run, the actual measured waist was just a bit larger than the stated waist size (about 1” in the smaller sizes and about 2” in the bigger sizes which is typical vanity sizing). And of course these are denim and may shrink just a tad too. The jeans have pockets in the hips for the addition of the SeeSmart hip protectors (see link below). The hip armor is quite thin and flexible so I don’t think they’ll make a difference in the size choice of jeans if you choose to wear them. So my overall advice would be to buy the waist size you normally wear in jeans; you’ll likely find a fit. If you aren’t sure whether your jeans are vanity sized like I’m describing, then either measure your waist where your normal jeans ride or measure your favorite pair of jeans to verify. You’ll probably find that you measure out a bit bigger than your normal jeans size and also the waist of your favorite jeans measures out an inch or two bigger than their stated size. If so, you will be on track following my advice.

The inseam lengths measured out about right as compared to the stated size, BUT there are a couple considerations here… first, these jeans come standard with knee armor and the knees are reinforced with a thick layer of an abrasion resistant material. Those two features add a bit of thickness and when you sit, that means the inseam gets a bit shorter than you might expect. You’ll also want to decide if you want to roll your jeans up at the cuff or not. Many people do, so add some inseam if you want to do that. Also, there is a reflective strip on the outside seam at the bottom that only shows when the ends are rolled. So with those considerations in mind I’d recommend you buy one size longer than you normally wear. If between sizes, choose the longer.

Our Two Cents

I’m reviewing two new jean styles today from REVIT which are new for their Fall 2016 collection, the Philly 2 and Lombard 2. For Spring 2016 we reviewed the Austin and Seattle jeans which are also still current products. I thought it might be helpful to tell you about the differences in the jeans to help you decide.

The basics of all four models are VERY similar. They are made of a heavy denim blend which is a mix of cotton and other fibers which is more durable and abrasion resistant than plain cotton denim. All materials are Cordura Brand. All four models come fitted with Seesmart knee armor which is very good armor for jeans… it’s very thin and very flexible and feels great and doesn’t affect fit or the looks of the jeans. All four models come with pockets for the addition of optional hip armor. The Austin and Seatle take a sligthly different style than the newer Lombard 2 and Philly 2. Just refer to the link at the bottom of each product page to see the hip armor that fits each style.

The fit of the waistband and the inseam on all four styles runs about the same (described above), but the “cut’ of the seat and thighs, and the taper of the legs in each styles are the functional differences. Here we go:

Austin and Seattle: Trimmer through the thigh and seat and tapered to the ankle. Probably won’t go over bulky boots but work great with shorter boots, riding shoes or boots with a trim top. Although the jeans are slim leg and trim, they have enough room in the thigh and seat for most people to wear… they aren’t super skinny. The difference between these two styles is the “wash” of the fabric which you can see in the pictures.

Philly 2 and Lombard 2: Both these styles have more room in the seat and the thighs. If you like a more loose or relaxed fit, you’ll like these. Sitting in them for hours will be a pleasure because they have enough room for all your, um, cargo, even if in a sport position. The Lombard 2 has a more tapered leg and the fabric is “unwashed” much like the original Levis jeans. The Philly 2 is not a tapered leg… more like a boot cut and the fabric is a bit “pre-washed”. Just take a look at the pictures we took in the photo gallery. They aren’t “professional” but they show the “texture” of the materials and the colors of the actual ones in our inventory.

Note: We never carried the original Lombard and Philly so I’m not speaking from firsthand experience, but I’m told those suffered from a lack of room in the seat and only fit men who are very thin with no butt. They work for some but not the masses.

Just speaking generally, I find these jeans to be sturdy, well engineered riding jeans that are noticeably a step above other jeans in the $90 to $150 range. Nothing wrong with those, but these are better. And with the range of colors and cuts available, I think nearly anybody should be able to find a style they like. :: Paul, 10-18-16
