Sizing Information

To choose a size, get a waist measurement with a tape and use the measurements to choose the size pant you need. Most people will find they’ve chosen the same size they usually wear in men’s clothing. The pants have some effective Velcro tabs on the waist you can use to snug the pants a bit… about two inches below the max, so that is why there is a range of 2” listed in the chart.

These pants have long side zippers to make them convenient for wearing over street clothes, so when you take your measurements be sure and measure over the type of clothing you’ll likely be wearing under them.

Our Two Cents

Here’s the 2.0 version of Tour Master’s Caliber pants. These pants are their “go to” waterproof textile overpant for mild to cold weather and or wet weather. They feature a long side zipper to make them convenient for commuters and touring riders to wear over their street clothes. Armor is included along with a removable thermal liner for cold weather use.

The overall cut of the Caliber pant is just slightly upgraded from past versions. Its cut a bit more trim and a bit lower waisted than previous, but the overall fit is generally the same so size selection is pretty easy. There Velcro adjusters on each side of the waist to tune the fit. Being an “overpant”, these pants have features that make it easy and convenient to wear them over your street clothes (although if you prefer to wear them just as they are they’ll work fine too). Down the outside of each leg there is a long side zipper. Sort of like chaps, this allows you to take these pants off without having to find a place to change clothes. With the zippers raised, you can step right out of them… even over boots.

The long side zippers are “two way” meaning you can zip open from the bottom or the top. Being able to zip down from the top allows you to reach into the pants to grab something out of your jeans pockets. And I also see that they’ve added a second strip of Velcro from the knee up to hold back the rain flap that usually covers the zipper. I’m presuming they want you to be able to crack open that side zipper from the top to catch a bit of air through the pants when it warms up. I’m not sure I’d endorse that idea from a safety perspective, but you can give it a shot and see what you think.

The shell is an abrasion resistant nylon material and beneath that is a waterproof/breathable liner to make them waterproof. The waterproof liner is non-removable and so these pants will perform very well in wet weather, but they won’t be too comfortable in hot weather…. that’s why I mention “mild to cold” weather use along with being well suited for rain. And you can take advantage of the removable quilted thermal liner for cold weather use. The liner is full length and has the same long size zipper so you can still use them as overpants even with the liner in place.

The armor in the pants is pretty good. You get CE armor in the knees and a foam pad in the hips. One neat feature is that the position of the knee armor can be adjusted up or down an inch or so in the pant to suit each rider’s leg length. Also with the short and tall inseam option, this pant should work for just about anybody. For connection to jackets, there is a short rear zipper that connects to Tour Master and Cortech textile jackets. But if you don’t have that brand of jacket, you can use the mating half of the zipper (included with the pants) and visit a tailor to install the zipper in the jacket you own.

Two large patch pockets in front on the thighs and two other zip-close pockets can store all your stuff. Night time reflectives on each side of the legs will make you visible at night (see our photo gallery to see how those look in our “night shots”). Overall, this is a very nice pair of pants for everyday use in the cooler seasons of the year. They’ll save your street clothes from dirt or damage on the daily ride. :: Paul, 12-29-17
