Roland Sands Design Kent Textile Jacket (SOLD OUT)

This jacket is cut a bit more trim and fits more snugly than most casually styled jackets like this. We measured a selection of sizes and also tried these on our fit test mannequins. Huey is wearing a medium and Dewey is in the XL. These are the sizes they normally wear. The fit is trim but looks good.

I’d advise to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing if you are looking for the trim fit this jacket offers. If you prefer a more casual fit, or are between sizes, then you’ll want to choose a size larger. To make size selection easier, we’ve developed the chart below to help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements. If you have a bit of a belly, just make sure that the jacket you choose will be big enough for both your chest and belly.

The collar on this jacket is about twice as tall as the normal Mandarin style collar. You don’t have to fasten the collar buttons of course but if you plan to do so, then you’ll need a relative trim/tall neck to do so. This with a short and/or stout neck will have trouble with this. Also, I find the arm holes to be quite trim on the jacket too. We find this often with more fashion oriented jackets. They work great for taller/slender types, but not so well for stout/muscular types.

Note: if you plan to add a back protector to this jacket, then add 1” to the chest/belly measurements before choosing a size.

The Kent textile jacket by Roland Sands is a casual, almost military-looking jacket made of a thinner waxed cotton material. It is a mid-waist style that is versatile. It has plenty of storage and provisions for armor.

The waxed cotton material used in the shell of this jacket is thinner and less “waxy” than other waxed cotton jackets I’ve seen. It feels soft and has sort of a retro look to it, especially with bronze zippers and buttons. Overall the jacket feels relatively light weight. I see four pockets in front and two inside and one small pocket on the right sleeve so there is more than an average amount of storage with this jacket.

The Kent comes with provisions for the addition of protective armor. The armor is made by Forcefield and is nice stuff. The armor pieces themselves are a three-ply arrangement which allows them to flex and mold to your body shape easily. As for abrasion protection, I really can’t say. Its not made of a fabric that I know to have good abrasion protection capabilities for motorcycling such as Cordura or leather. It does feel more sturdy than plain cotton, but I can’t say how it would perform.

If a casual military-style jacket has appeal for you, this one will be one of the few I can think of that will work. :: Paul, 03-27-18
