We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.
If you look at Icon’s chest size estimates for each jacket, you might be choosing a size larger than you normally wear (example a person with a 46 chest typically is an XL, but using Icon’s chart you’d buy an XXL). I’m not sure why Icon has always understated the size of their otherwise normally fitting jackets. To help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements, I’ve put together the table below. If you use our estimates of max chest, you’ll probably be choosing the size you normally wear.
Contrary to Icon’s marketing info which says this jacket has an “Icon Sport Fit”, which implies a snug torso and a large taper from chest to waist, I find this jacket to be pretty “relaxed” and therefore belly size won’t be a problem for most. But if you have a bit of a belly, you’ll want to get a measurement and make sure to choose a jacket large enough to work.

Our Two Cents
The Icon Automag 2 is a sport jacket offered in bold graphics or a “stealth” version which is all black. This jacket offers a sturdy chassis with a full set of armor and the entire jacket is CE rated.
The textiles used in the Automag are heavy duty and should provide very good abrasion protection if you fall. Also, I think the jacket should last a long long time. The fit is easy to wear, but not overly loose so I think you’ll like it for everyday street and sport riding. With the climate control features built in, the Automag 2 will work great for most seasons of the year. Its got venting at the ends of the sleeves to shoot some air up your arms and then there are zip vents in the front and back of the torso which will move some air too. Also, it’s not a waterproof jacket so the fabrics will naturally breathe well too. For cooler weather, this style includes a full sleeve removable thermal liner.
Included with the Automag 2 is a full set of D3O included (so there is nothing else to buy). There are molded overlays on the shoulders to add some style and to beef up the protection in that area. There is a strip of reflective worked into the design of that armor piece too that is sharp and will make you light up at night in other people’s headlights.
I like the accordion inserts behind the shoulders and also above the elbows. Those make it easy to reach forward and just to move around in general. You can also adjust the fit with the side buckles at the waist. Those are like buckles you’d see on a boot so they are VERY sturdy. The arms also have straps so you can snug down the fit and make the armor stay in place better.
Check out the details in our photo gallery. This is a well made jacket that will work well for a lot of riding styles. :: Paul, 10-08-18
