Sizing Information

We tried a size 42 on Huey and a size 46 on Dewey, which are the standard sizes they wear, and both fit great (take the View Larger Images” link above to see). And I also checked the waist and chest on a selection of sizes. The fit of these jackets is pretty standard so I recommend you choose a jacket size based on your chest measurement and/or suit coat size (if you know that). The “drop” from chest to waist is pretty relaxed (meaning they don’t taper as much as full-on sport race jackets) so for most people you don’t need to worry about the waist/belly, but if you have a bit of girth, you should check your belly with a tape to make sure the size jacket you choose is big enough for both your chest and belly. Thin guys can use the side adjusters at the waist to get a good fit in the lower body. The arms also have some snap-close adjusters to help get a good fit in the bicep and forearm areas.

Jacket Size Max Chest Max Belly
40 40 36
42 42 38
44 44 40
46 46 42
48 48 44
50 50 46
52 52 48

Our Two Cents

The Speedmaster for 2014 by Joe Rocket is the sixth generation of this style (last one was the SM 5.0, but I guess they’ve decided to drop the “revision number” from the name). Over the years, this jacket has been (and still is) Joe Rocket’s best sport/race leather style. The leather used in these jackets is thick and will provide great protection against abrasion in a fall (leather’s main advantage over other materials). This jacket is cut for comfort in the tucked riding position, and the adjustable waist and sleeves give the jacket a custom feel (not always the case in sport cut jackets). Being a primarily solid leather jacket, I’d recommend it for warm to cold weather (but not hot weather). The jacket does have a couple zippered vents in the bicep area and also has a couple nifty molded vents on the shoulders, so you’ll get some air into the jacket in warmer weather. And when it is cold, you’ll appreciate the solid leather construction to act as a wind barrier, and you can use the removable thermal liner that comes with the jacket for some insulation. The liner is a bit better quality than in previous years and is a bit thicker I think. The armor in this jacket is much like CE armor you’ll find in other quality sport jackets, but the rubber compound is a bit more forgiving than many which makes the armor a bit more “form-fitting”, and also I see that the elbow armor extends down the arm toward the wrist for extra coverage. The shoulder armor piece is backed up by titanium plates (which you can see on the exterior of the jacket). The back protector is much better than most foam padding I’ve seen and should offer some great impact protection. The jacket comes with a short rear zipper so it would be compatible with just about every model of Joe Rocket pants (those with zippers anyway). I’ve always been a fan of how the Joe Rocket jackets look and fit. The sizing is forgiving to the “American” build and they aren’t as snug fitting as their European counterparts. And the styling is sharp too. We’ve got a great set of close-up photos of this jacket you can see by taking the “View Larger Images” link above. Note: the close-up photos were taken with the Cool White jacket which went on closeout on 4/22/15. Same features as the Stealth jacket. :: Paul, 12-03-13
