Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. Both jackets fit with plenty of room for error in both the waist and chest. This style is designed to fit over another jacket or sweater. We generally advise people to buy the size they normally wear in men’s clothing, and I’d stick with that advice on this style as well IF you plan to wear it over another heavy garment like a jacket or hoodie. If you plan to wear it with a t-shirt or something else thin then I suggest you size down. The best advice is to measure yourself while wearing the garments you plan to wear under the riding flannel and then order the corresponding size according to the chart below.

Below is the size chart based on what we have measured in this style.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Belly
Small 38-40 38
Medium 40-42 40
Large 42-44 42
XL 46-48 46
XXL 48-50 48

XXXXL 54-56 54

Our Two Cents

The Upstate Riding Flannel from Icon is new for fall 2021 and broadens their riding shirt offering.

The Upstate Riding Flannel is designed to fit over your casual jacket or sweater. The interior of the jacket has a mesh lining so it is easy to put on and remove and doesn’t hang on your other garments. The jacket is simple flannel material with a Cordura® canvas in the elbows and forearms. There is a full complement of D3O armor within the jacket so you get that added protection as well. Across the back, there is a muted reflective strip that doesn’t stand out until light hits it.

The front zipper on the jacket is two way so you can open up the jacket at the bottom if you need to in the seated position and the collar secures with snaps so you don’t have to worry about it flopping around. The cuffs have a snap closure and a zippered vent a few inches above the wrist. There are two chest pockets that also double as vents, the flap of the pocket tucks up out of the way to expose the mesh panels. Two traditional hand warmer pockets are at the belly and they have zipped closures to make sure anything important you might put in there doesn’t fall out on the ride. The interior of the jacket has a Napoleon pocket and inside Icon has their Saint Christopher pendant on a short lanyard.

This jacket is a good option for a commuter or cruiser rider who wants some protection from impacts and cold weather. It should be good in mild to cold weather if you layer underneath as it is designed. :: Mike, 01/04/2022
