Sizing Information
We measured and tried on a few different sizes in this hoody. Unlike an ordinary jacket, this hoody is flexible and does not lend itself to direct measurement, so the best I can do is give you our impressions from trying them on. The hoody fits nice and is reasonably stretchy and comfortable, but overall, we found it to fit trim as compared to normal US sizing. Also, not having a front main zipper made it difficult to pull on and take off in our normal sizes. For most people, I’d suggest you buy one size larger than you usually wear in men’s clothing. The exception would be a person with a trim built who prefers the European fit.
Our Two Cents
REVIT is offering two new pull-over style tops for riding… the Cedar Hoody and the Whitby Sweater. Both include soft and pliable armor for the shoulders and elbows and a back protector is an available upgrade. The overall designs are similar so we are reviewing both together. We’ve provided a link to the other product below so you can look over both.
Lots of people like hoodies and sweaters, right? They’re comfortable and casual and very flexible. They can also feel like a nice warm blanket in cooler weather. These two new products from REVIT are aiming for those that love their casual/comfy gear. The shell of these two garments is a synthetic blend of Cordura fabric. It reminds me a lot of higher tech workout gear you may be familiar with. It has a “slick” finish” and is completely flexible. Both these new designs are pullover style and both have banded sleeve cuffs with a thumb-hole cuff (sometimes called a monkey paw) to keep the sleeve pulled down. The shoulders and elbows on both have rip-stop nylon overlays. And both are fitted with REVIT’s most flexible armor… the SeeSmart type. You can add an optional back protector too (see info below).
So what’s the difference between the two? Well, it’s all in the title. the Cedar Hoody has a hood and the Whitby Sweater has a ribbed knit collar with no hood. Both styles have a short rear zipper compatible with REVIT pants and they also have a couple snap loops you could use to connect to your jean’s belt loops. Optionally, you could buy one of REVIT’s belts that have a mating 6” zipper (see those below).
These two “jacket alternatives” will give you about the same protection on a bike as many “shirt jacket” choices out there. Obviously, they won’t give you the same features and level of protection as full featured traditional design, but it may be just what you want if you like your hoody/sweater. :: Paul, 03-04-21
Add a Back Protector: This jacket is made with a pocket to accept a Seesoft CE Level 2 Back Protector Insert type RV (RV refers to the shape). For sizes Small or Medium, choose size 4; for Large thru XXL, choose size 5. One note of caution about using the back protector with the Whitby Sweater or Cedar Hoody: The very soft/flexible nature of the fabric along with not having a front main zipper (you pull it over your head to get it on) are going to make wearing a back protector a challenge. The outline of the back protector is going to be completely visible under the fabric and also will cut down on the comfort (which negates the main idea here). Just sayin’.
REVIT says: The Cedar is a hooded, pullover riding jacket sans zipper. You literally pull it on. The fabric of the Cedar Hoody is Cordura ripstop. This is the same cut, tear and abrasion-resistant material found in REV’IT!’s top-tier, no compromises moto jackets. Here, the company uniquely molds the material into the casual form of a hooded sweatshirt.
