Sizing Information

This product is sold in European sizes.

For our photos and evaluation, we have a size 50 Euro suit. We measured the chest and belly and the sizing of the suit aligns with Icon’s sizing chart (summarized below). To choose a suit size, I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest and belly sizes in inches. Then you can use the size chart to pick the smallest size suit that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart.

Race suits are trim and fit very close to the body. This suit, like most other modern designs, has a great deal of flexible fabric material in the underarm, crotch and rear leg area. It also has accordion materials behind the shoulders, above the waist in back, on the sides of the chest and above the knee. All the stretch areas help with flexiblity and comfort while getting a really snug fit. I wouldn’t advise buying a race suit larger than recommended.

The pant section of the suit has tapered pant legs intended for use tucked into sport/race boots. The inseam is short with the idea they’ll only reach the top of your foot (or even a bit shorter). The armor is positioned in the pant to fit over your knee. The armor is soft and is somewhat flexible as to exact positioning. If you are taller or shorter than average for your jacket/pant size, a race suit like this might not work for you, and you might want to consider buying a race/sport jacket and pant combo that is offered in the tall/short sizes.

Our Two Cents

Icon has entered the suit market! The Hypersport Suit is new for 2019 in two colors. This suit is a full featured race suit for street or track. A full compliment of D3O armor is included.

Icon gear has traditionally been aimed at sport and stunt street riders, and their first product for the trace combines things we see in other manufacturer’s suits, but with a bit of “street” thrown in. Here are some examples… the armor in the suit is D3O which is a soft flexible armor commonly offered in all sorts of street riding gear. It is very comfortable and practical. We typically see more robust armor in other brand suits. By more robust, I mean stiffer and sometimes with hard plastic overlays on the armor units themselves. The hard shell armor types are made to deal with hard, high speed impacts. Icon has added external “TPU” pieces over the shoulders, elbows and knees to offer some of that “hard shell” to the otherwise soft armor. The TPU material is a bit rubbery and more flexible than the hard shell on race suit armor. So my point is, the armor setup with the Icon is surely heavy duty, but not like Dianese or Alpinestars armor inserts… not “professional grade”. But I think Icon’s approach will make this suit more comfortable and practical for the amateur race and/or sport/street rider. It will just be more comfortable to deal with if you are in the suit for longer periods of time.

Another feature I like with the suit is the removable and washable inner liner. Not many suits offer this option and it makes the suit so much more “cleanable”. Comfort-wise, I think this suit will be excellent. It really has massive sections of accordion leather and stretch materials. And if you look closely, you’ll see several areas where the leather chassis is perforated to admit some air. Granted a leather suit, isn’t going to be super cool and comfy in hot summer temps no matter what, but the perfs will help a lot of air flow through to your skin and to make those hot temps more bearable.

The overall tailoring is really nice. I think the cut of the suit is not quite as “pre curved” as many high end race suits… another area where this suit will be more practical for street. I like the treatment at the ends of the legs and arms. It’s trimmed with a soft neoprene material that should be comfortable under boots/gloves.

This suit comes with a back pad from D3O. This might meet your needs, but it is really a “street” style back protector. If you get serious at the track, you’ll want to consider removing the D3O model and getting a wearable back protector. Many are available which will give you the hard plastic coverage and extend further down the back than this one.

For the money, and for certain uses, I think this new suit from Icon could be an excellent choice. The pricing, considering the complete armor package, is very reasonable and only reaches into the “entry level” range for most other brands. You could easily spend twice this on a suit, so I think it offers a lot of value if your need/use is a good match. :: Paul, 05-01-19
