Our Two Cents

I took a look at these boots and found an issue with the buckle system. The closure has two separate closing methods. The top part around the shin works great. It is an ordinary Velcro-close arrangement. The lower part is a large flap that wraps around the back side of the ankle and then fastens into a ratchet buckle. It closes and holds OK, but the length of the strap that goes into the buckle is apparently too long and when you begin to snug it down, the end of the strap bottoms out in the little slot it fits into and prevents further take-up.

I assume the function of the strap/buckle was to allow you to snug down the instep area to suit your taste, but since that strap bottoms out, the whole contraption becomes no more than cosmetic (and besides, a big pain in the butt to work with).

Alpinestars packs a shorter ratchet piece in the boot box, and that would have been helpful, but there is no reasonably easy way to change the strap… at least not without using a small screwdriver to pry out the longer strap.

I’m leaving this product active in case you came to us to buy the boots and are OK with this flaw. If you decide to buy, PLEASE don’t pry/break anything and then return the boots. :: Paul, 10-02-15

Boots feel very light and comfortable. Use a .010 feeler gauge to change the ankle straps.
