Speed and Strength Insurgent Moto Shoe (Sold Out)

We tried on a sampling of these shoes and thought the fit was true to the stated size. The width is “normal” or “D”. Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see the height measurements. The lacing system allows for some adjustment in the fit across the instep and ankle which is a nice feature, and the rear zipper entry makes them easy to put on and take off.

Speed and Strength’s Insurgent Moto Shoes are a casual style shoe for everyday street riders. Two colors are offered.

Here’s what I like: The overall styling is sharp. I think these shoes could be worn anywhere off the bike and they’ll give a nice look and be comfortable to wear. I do like the combination of the laces and rear zipper. Laces give the ability to adjust the fit and compensate for different sock thicknesses. And the rear zip allows you to easily don the shoes without fiddling with the laces each time. The ankle armor is larger around and thicker than with most shoes. Feeling through the shoe’s liner, it has a round flat shape and is about 1/4” thick. Id’ expect those might rub on the ankles since they don’t have a cupped shape but surprisingly they feel OK while wearing the shoes. Being large and firm feeling is a plus for protection.

Here’s what I don’t like: The quality of the materials and the build quality are noticeably lacking in this shoe. For example, the material used around the ankle opening is super cheapo looking vinyl. And the installation quality of the rear zipper doesn’t look very good to me. There is virtually no trimming around the zipper inside or out. Also, the soles are not reinforced at all. They feel like a Chuck Taylor high top fold over.

There are LOTS of nice quality shoes you can buy in this price range or for slightly more money. One example would be the Sidi Arcadia Tex, or another would be Icon 1000 Truant 2. I’d suggest you check those out. :: Paul, 08-27-19 (more about less-than-favorable reviews)
