Sizing Information

We tried a selection of these boots in our showroom and found the size chart conversion to be accurate for length. The width of the boots is “medium” or C/D width. We suggest using the size chart to choose a size based upon your US shoe size, or of course choose the European size you wear if you know it. We think the fit of these boots is very similar to Sidi boots. Click the image below to make it bigger:

Our Two Cents

Nexus and Nexus WP boots by Dainese are great sport and sport touring boots with styling and many protective features in common with more sophisticated race boots, but designed to be practical and comfortable for street use.

Just a few days ago, I reviewed the Sid Performer line of boots and I see many similarities between that line and this Nexus line of boots from Dainese. The Dainese boots are just a touch more expensive than the Sidi, but that is true for the entire boot line from Dainese… they are a premium brand that is priced just a bit higher than other quality boot lines we carry.

The Nexus boots come in a “standard” model and a “D-WP” version. Both versions have a similar list of features and function, but the “D-WP” adds a waterproof barrier for those that occasionally ride in wet weather (take the link below to view the other version). In the Sidi Performer line, the waterproof version is about $80 more than the standard version, but their waterproof boot uses GoreTex which is more expensive than non-GoreTex boots like this one. Surprisingly, both the standard Nexus and the D-WP Nexus are the same price. That makes the D-WP a pretty good value, so if you think you’ll ever benefit from having a waterproof liner, then definitely opt for the D-WP version.

I like the design of the hinged plastic protectors on this boot. The plastic shin armor extends down the sides of the foot to the pivot point on both sides of the ankle. At the pivot point there is a hinge arrangement which is intended to prevent flexing from side to side or hyper-extension (like pointing the toe past where it would want to go) in case of an accident. But at the same time, the hinge allows easy movement for ordinary walking/shifting. Full on race boots would have a more substantial arrangement like this, but remember, these aren’t race boots and are made for more reasonable movement and use for street riders. One little nit to pick about the hinge arrangement on this boot… it squeaks/creaks a little bit when you walk. If these were my boots, I’d try a little squirt of dry silicone to make them quiet, but I didn’t want to do anything like that with this new sample pair.

Like a race boot, these have the usual reinforcements in the heel and toe area, a protector where the shifter hits on the top of the foot and a replaceable toe slider. The sole is a thin, but firm compound that will work well with sport bike shifters. The sole of the boot has a stiffener in the shank area to support weight on the pegs (a necessary feature for nearly any sort of motorcycle boot).

A unique feature of this style is the rear entry. Most boots like this will have a side zipper, but this one has a rear zipper. And on either side of the rear zip near the top are two “wings” used to adjust the opening of the boot around your calf. So if you have larger or skinnier calves, this boots will give you some adjustability. I’m not sure I could say the rear entry is any better or worse than the more common side entry boot, but I can see how it would simplify the design of the protection on the inside of the ankle. With the rear entry, the boot can have the pivot on the side of the boot with being in the way of the zipper.

Overall, very nice boots with high build quality and a sharp design. :: Paul, 12-10-18
