Sizing Information

This shoe is sold in standard US sizes. We found this shoe to be sized correctly for length, so choose the size you normally wear in a men’s shoe. The width is considered “D” or “normal”. If you are between sizes, I’d recommend choosing the smaller as we found the overall fit to be slightly generous.

Our Two Cents

The Chicane shoe by Cortech is new for 2020. This is a sport styled high top shoe. The Chicane is made in two versions… the “air” and the “WP” (waterproof) and is available in men’s or women’s sizes in both versions (see links below for other versions).

I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised by the new Chicane shoes after seeing them in person. We’ve seen nearly every brand we sell design a shoe similar to this one over the years. It’s a popular style with the sport looks, a low profile sole, and a “stealth” appearance. And shoes like this offer protection beyond street shoes, but are easy to wear and compatible with any pant style. With some brands, I’ve panned their shoes because they don’t have any significant protective features, but the Chicane actually feels quite sturdy. Both the toe area and the heel cup areas feel very firm and the sole has quite a bit of stiffness too. You can see a rubberized protector on the outside of the shoe that wraps around the neck just about ankle height, but in addition to that, the shoes have circular protection pieces built inside the shoe over the ankle bones. I also like the lace arrangement. The laces are recessed and there is also a Velcro strap that goes over the loose laces after you get them tied. All that is to keep loose laces from catching on misc mechanical parts on your bike to prevent an embarrassing spill if you happen to catch one while trying to put a foot down. For the sturdy feel of this boot, I’m liking the very reasonable price, which is significantly less than with other more spendy brands.

Choose from two versions of the boot. The “Air” version uses perforated panels on both sides of the feet and also tongue uses a flow through mesh fabric on both sides to allow air to flow into the boot too. The WP is made of solid material and also has an integrated waterproof liner. So choose the version based on your climate. The Air version ought to shine in warm weather. The WP version will work better in cold temps and of course in wet weather. Keep in mind a lower waterproof shoe like this will only be as good as how well your pant leg covers the top of the boot when sitting on the bike. But if your pants cover the tops completely, they ought to keep out water.

If you like wearing a slim fit or skinny riding jeans, these new Chicane shoes will be ideal since they fit around the ankle very closely and rise just above the ankle. Overall, these are really nice street shoes with impressive protective features and a very nice price. :: Paul, 07-17-20
