Sizing Information

These boots are sold in US sizes and after trying on a few samples in our showroom, we advise to choose the size you normally wear. The width is “normal” or D width… it might even be E width. The instep of the boot is HIGHLY adjustable with the BOA system.

Our Two Cents

The Outlander boot by Klim is a blend of a short top waterproof street boot but with some features found on more rugged ADV riding boots. This one can work for you in a lot of riding scenarios. It has more armor protection that any short boot we sell.

TOP THREE BENEFITS
  • FUNCTIONAL ADV BOOT AND HIKER IN ONE BOOT
  • GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY®
  • PROTECTION ON THE BIKE / COMFORT OFF THE BIKE

First the armor package… on each side of the ankle in behind the tongue are molded D3O armor pieces. You can’t see them from the outside or inside because they are built into the boot, but you can sure feel them with your fingers. They are light and flexible, but have the property of becoming momentarily hard upon impact. We sell TONS of D3O for jackets and pants. It is very popular and highly respected brand. The inclusion of the armor in the tongue is above and beyond any other boot in the house. Taller boots of course have hard armor in the shin area, but if you opt for a short boot, this one will give you more than any other. Beyond the D3O armor pieces, the heel and toe boxes are reinforced and the sole has a built in stiff shank (like nearly all ADV boots).

I’m struck by the low weight of this boot. It doesn’t feel heavy and clunky at all which is surprising with all the built in armor. Some the weight reduction comes from mixing in the mesh material along side the solid materials. For waterproofing, this boot has an integral GoreTex liner. That liner will wick foot moisture and expel it out of the boot. The mesh panels in the side will help the moisture to escape as well. Being waterproof, it is also windproof. Given its overall construction, I’d say you’ll be happy with the comfort in all but the hottest weather, so I’ll say three seasons.

The closure system on this boot is super slick. We’ve seen other styles with this closure and it is just so easy and fast to work with. No laces… just pop your foot in the boot, snap down the knob on the tongue and give it a twist or two to tighten down the laces to your taste. The laces are coated wires that slide in the guides attached to the boot’s upper, and they won’t pop out out their guides, so you never have to re-fish those back into place. It is just so simple and works so well, there really isn’t much else to say.

The toe box of this boot is shaped a bit differently than most other boots. Klim is using Nestfit technology. Have a look at this video for some info about the idea. In trying the boots on, I can get behind the idea of of non-symmetrical shape of the toe box to better mimic the shape of the human foot. Beyond that, the inside of the toe box is molded and has indentations for each toe. That part seems a little silly to me. I don’t buy boots where my toes hit the end of the boot, so I’m not sure that feature is legit, but the shape concept makes sense and feels good to me. The overall effect is that the boot is shorter overall, but still has enough room inside. Anyway, I like the overall concept and they seem to fit well.

The sole of these boots is similar to other ADV boots we sell from TCX, Forma, Alpinestars, etc. It feels heavy duty, but it is light. I can see wearing these boots for a range of riding conditions. An everyday commuter to a more technical off road rider will like them. Are they a full-on adventure boot? No, they don’t have the height and weight for the most technical riding, but on the other hand, they’ll hand hikes, lunch, wandering the car show, etc with ease. :: Paul, 02-15-18
