Sizing Information

We checked the sizing of this style with our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. They are wearing size Medium and XL jackets respectively. These are their “usual” sizes and they fit just fine. We also checked the chest and belly of the other sizes and find them to fit OK too. Therefore, we recommend you choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If anything, we find the fit to be generous, so if you are between sizes, I’d advise the smaller.

Another way to refine your size selection is to measure your chest and belly and then use our size chart (below) which lists max chest and max belly sizes for each jacket size. The measurements in the chart are a combination of the manufacturer’s size chart and also the measurements we take on the product samples. After you measure, you can choose a jacket size using the chart. You’ll want to choose a size that will accommodate both your chest and belly.

This jacket is offered in tall sizes. Tall jackets will be about 1 1/2” longer in the sleeves and torso than the “standard” size jackets. Sleeve lengths listed below are for standard sizes, so add the 1 1/2” for an estimate of the sleeve length of tall sizes. Sleeve lengths are measured from the shoulder seam to the cuff end.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Max Belly Standard Sleeve Length
XS 37 34 25
Small 39 36 25.5
Medium 41 38 26
Large 43 40 26.5
XL 45 42 27
XXL 49 46 27.5
XXXL 52 49 27.5
XXXXL 55 52 28
XXXXXL 57 54 28

Our Two Cents

The Highlander Waterproof jackets and pants are the latest additions to the Horizon line of adventure/dual sport gear from Tour Master.

The Tour Master Highlander jacket is waterproof thanks to a fully laminated shell with taped seams and DWR coating. The jacket also has a removable full length thermal liner. If you’re looking for a winter Jacket this one will fit the bill, but this jacket also has venting in the chest, biceps, sides, and main zipper, with rear exhaust vents on the back and bicep so you can wear it comfortably into pretty warm temperatures as well. A couple of call outs though:

1. The internal napoleon pocket on the left chest blocks the chest vent. You can move it around to minimize the blockage but it will always block between 10% and 95% of the airflow.

2. The main zipper has full length mesh panels down either side behind the storm flaps BUT you have to fold the storm flaps over and they are a little fussy, especially with gloves on, and try to stick (magnetically) to the incorrect spot until trained to open correctly and also the back of the mesh panel is textile for some reason, it is open to the mesh interior of the jacket but if you have a snug fit in the jacket the textile will be against the mesh and NO air will come through. Also near the cargo pockets, the textile material is stitched to the pocket so no air on the lower body with the main zipper vent.

Tour Master got really close with this jacket, and I feel like I’m beating it up a little bit but these things are small details that would put it over the top. I would call this a 3 season jacket, it’ll work for cold to warm weather but in extreme heat, you will probably want a little more venting.

The jacket has two waterproof hand pockets with zip closure, two waterproof cargo pockets with flap and zip closures, and two waterproof zippered pockets on the outside of the cargo pockets. The jacket has some flexibility as well. There are hook and loop waist and cuff adjusters as well as a two way zippered gusset at the cuff for expanding or opening for venting up the sleeve and drawcords at the hem. The 4-way stretch material that they call out in the bullet points is either non-existent or poorly applied though, there is no stretch in the elbow or shoulder.

The Highlander jackets have a short connection zipper with the mating half for pairing with your favorite pants. They also come with CE level 2 armor at the shoulders and elbows. The foam back pad can be easily upgraded, see the related products below.

The new Tour Master Highlander jacket will perform well for the adventure or dual sport rider that is looking for multi-season functionality and flexibility in a comfortable waterproof shell. Tour Master did a great job designing this jacket from scratch, and I’m sure they’ll continue to refine it in later generations. :: Mike, 07/27/2022
