REV'IT! Defender 3 GTX Pants
The Defender 3 GTX are a very versatile pair of rugged pants that is prepared to take on any weather on the road. To keep riders comfortable in cold and wet, they are equipped with a removable 3-layer GORE-TEX waterproof liner with a removable thermal liner for insulation in colder temperatures. The outer shell is equipped with stretch inserts above the knee and under the waist to increase freedom of movement during active riding on or off the road. When the temperature starts to rise while riding, easily open the VCS|Ventilation panels on the upper legs and secure them using the magnetic Fidlock® closure. By opening the exhaust vent on the rear of the pocket, riders will create a steady flow of air through the pants keeping upper legs cool and comfortable. Under the rugged outer shell constructed of ripstop material, we installed SEESMART CE-level 1 hip protectors and SEEFLEX CE-level 2 protectors that come in height adjustable knee protector pockets. To increase the abrasion resistance on the high impact areas of the outer shell, we added a protective multi-layer print to the knee area.

Our Two Cents
The REV’IT! Defender 3 GTX pants are an update on their popular adventure touring style.
These Defender 3 GTX pants feature a removable GORE-TEX liner with Micro Grid Backer technology and a removable thermal liner. The GORE-TEX liner is breathable and waterproof. The combination liners and venting options on these pants make them ideal for just about any riding conditions. If it is hot and wet your can wear just the GORE-TEX liner and open the vents to get air to the membrane and keep you cool, or if it is cold you can keep that thermal liner installed and seal up the vents for a warm ride. Venting is optional thanks to two large panels with FidLock® magnetic fasteners just below the large thigh pockets. The interior of the pants has a mesh lining for comfort when worn without the two removable liners. There are adjusters at the waist and back of the knee so you can get a good fit with any liner configuration.
The large thigh pockets have zip closures and fold over tops to keep your stashed items dry. There are also two more traditional slit pockets closer to the waist. These also have zip closures but they are not waterproof. The seat and interior of the legs have sure grip material that appears to double as a thermal protector for the occasional contact with hot pipes.
There is level 2 SEEFLEX™ armor in the knee that is installed in a pocket with 2 hook and loop adjusters for height. SEEFLEX™ is REV’IT’s somewhat thicker armor that is flexible but not as flexible as the SEESMART™ level 1 armor that is included at the hip. Sometimes their naming can get confusing so I wanted to clear that up a little. The outside of the knee also has a printed pattern over the knee that looks similar to the Armacor® fabric on the Dominator 3 GTX pants but it does not serve an armor function on the Defender 3.
I want to take a minute and go into further details on the difference in this Defender 3 and the next level Dominator 3 GTX. The main difference between the Defender 3 GTX and the Dominator 3 GTX is the waterproofing of the garment. The Dominator is the top level and features 3L GORE-TEX Pro which means that the GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to the outer shell of the pants. With a bonded layer there is no movement between the layers which attributes to wear and eventually failure of the waterproofing, this 3L bonded construction is extremely durable. The Defender 3 GTX uses a removable GORE-TEX liner by contrast. This setup means that the outer shell of the pant is not waterproof on its own as you can tell when you compare the venting panels between the pants this is the case. The Dominator has a full waterproof aquadefence vent while the Defender uses a hook and loop closure that is not waterproof.
These Defender 3 GTX pants are a great mid-tier option for serious adventure and touring riders. They offer the flexibility from thermal and waterproof to vented textile with a few zippers. They aren’t as extreme as their big brother the Dominator but that’s ok, we don’t all ride in conditions that warrant that price tag.
