For wearing the pants over light clothing, you can choose a waist size based upon the chart below, but if you plan to wear these over heavier clothing you will want to consider the next larger size (especially if your waist falls between two size selections). The waist adjustment belt will allow you to take up to 4 inches out of the waist.

Our Two Cents

The Alter Ego’s have long been one of Joe Rocket’s top selling overpants, and for good reason. The Alter Ego 2.0 textile overpants combine several features to make them very versatile. First, you get a good protective outer layer made from ballistic nylon. The inner leg is reinforced with melt resistant material, and CE armor in the knees and foam padding in the hips and lower back protect you in an accident. The legs of these pants are pre-curved for the riding position, and stretch panels above the knees keep you comfortable while on the bike. Side zippers on both the inner liner and the lower leg of the pants help with getting these on over boots. Because of the mesh panel on these, the zipper does not run the full length of the leg. Speaking of that mesh panel, that’s probably the best feature of these pants. A textile flap can be removed revealing a mesh ventilation system for hot weather riding. Since the waterproof liner is removable, this means you could have a good amount of air flowing through these and keeping you cool. Joe Rocket does claim that these are 100% waterproof, but as with any textile riding gear, take that with a grain of salt. Also keep in mind that the outer shell of the pants will get soaked in the rain. But, for cooler weather and for light rain it should do a very good job. The only complaint I have about the 2.0 version of these pants is they have eliminated the jacket connection zipper, which is really too bad. There are two front zippered pockets and reflective piping for increased night-time visibility. We have taken quite a few photos of these pants in our studio here, so be sure to click the “View Larger Images” link above to check those out.

One of my feet is wider than the other, and while my normal track boots are fine for an hour or two, they hurt my foot if I push it any longer than that. Since I'm doing more touring riding now, I needed something that would fit more comfortably f... (Read more...)
