Sizing Information

I measured a sampling of these pants and found the waist sizes to measure out right about 1” or 2” larger than the stated size. Most “vanity sized” jeans these days will measure out a bit larger than the stated size similar to these. I would advise you to buy the same size in this pant as you wear in jeans. If you want to measure your waist, order a size equal to two inches smaller than your actual waist measurement. The waist on this pant has a buckle arrangement so you can snug them up from about 1” to about 4” overall (2” on each side max). If you find yourself between sizes, I’d advise you to choose the larger with the idea you can take up some of the waist size with the side adjusters.

The inseam on the pants measured out to about 32” across the size range… maybe 33” in the largest sizes. Unfortunately the pants won’t be easily hemmed due to the zipper at the ankle and the non-adjustable armor position, so that means your inseam needs to be pretty close to the 32” – 33” range.

Our Two Cents

Meet the Icon 1000 Nightbreed jacket and pants for 2019. This jacket and pant are made of a stretchy fabric with a casual cut. D3O armor is included for all the body parts. The pants are sold on this product page… take the link below to view the jacket product page.

Hmmm… I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like the new Nightbreed. Both the jacket and pants are made of a stretchy, sort of silky feeling material, not unlike athletic sweats. I’ll have to admit it is super comfortable as compared to just about any riding gear you might find in our store. But I’m skeptical about this gear from a protection point of view. Icon says it is abrasion resistant, but it sure doesn’t feel like traditional protective materials. Granted, the jacket does have a layer of more traditional textile material over the elbows and shoulder areas, but the pants don’t have anything extra at the knees, seat or hips.

The armor pieces are the standard D3O package, which is very nice. But armor needs a structured jacket/pant to hold it in the right places when you hit the ground, and I really can’t see that happening with the Nightbreed.

I will admit, the jacket does have appeal due to the casual/comfortable cut and because it does have some extra reinforcement that would perform better than the basic stretch material alone. I can see this jacket being really handy for city use… slow speeds and without the need for climate controls (thermal liner, waterproof liner, etc), but I really don’t think it would be good for serious touring. But for short hops close the home, the basic black look of the jacket would work well on or off the bike, The pants? I really can’t get into the pant design at all due to the flimsy construction. And Icon’s pitch? We’ll see for yourself below. Sheesh. :: Paul, 04-30-19

Icon says: Achieve your inner Jean-Claude in the ICON 1000 Nightbreed pant. Its 4-way stretch chassis is rugged yet flexible, perfect for on and off the bike applications. When you step in the ring with Tong Poand are serving up some 360 crescents, you can kick freely knowing your pants come equipped with zippered side pockets to keep your accoutrements secure. D3O® knee and hip inserts are in your corner when the asphalt doles out the ol’ 1-2 combo, while the waist adjustment system allows you to fine-tune your fitment.
