Sizing Information

We measured a sampling of these jeans of different waist sizes and lengths and find they measure out to the stated size. Most jeans are “vanity” sized which mean they’ll measure out about 2” larger than the stated size in the waist. To pick a size, you’ll want to measure your waist (use our instructions below) and choose the size which corresponds to waist measurement. Because your favorite jeans are likely vanity sized by about 2”, you’ll wind up choosing a size in this pant that 2” larger than your jean size.

These pants are cut a little higher than ordinary jeans too, so when you measure, be sure to measure up higher on your waist just under the navel.

As for inseam, these pants come with extra length and the ends of the pants are rolled up and “tacked” to stay that way. The measured inseam to the end of the pant leg with the ends rolled up is 32”. If you needed the pants to be longer or shorter, it would be relatively simple to cut the threads holding the cuff and have more or less cuff at the end to get the overall inseam right for you. The amount rolled up is about 4”.

Our Two Cents

Wow, these Raw Authentic jeans by Trilobite are TOUGH!! These are unwashed denim blend fabric with Cordura to make them a lot more abrasion resistant than standard denim. And on top of that, the pants are lined to the knee with an extra layer of Kevlar fabric. Armor is included for the hips and knees.

These pants come in a special box with special care instructions that are specific to raw denim. For example, “you don’t wash the, but soak them”, and you “don’t wash them but every six months” or so. And to keep them smelling fresh, you put them in the freezer! No, I’m not pulling your (jean) leg… that’s really what you do with raw denim!

The combination of the Cordura reinforced denim and the Kevlar fabric liner makes these jeans about as tough as any I’ve ever seen. And look a the pictures closeup and you’ll see the side seams are triple stitched.

The overall cut seems to be “standard” if not a bit more roomy… sort of similar to a work pant or cargo pant. The waist is really nice. The pants have an extra panel above the waist band in the back to give you good coverage when you are in a riding position. But that panel tapers down in height as it comes around the sides so it isn’t sticking up in front into your belly.

I explained the cuff situation in the sizing advice so take a look at that. The cuff is part of the “retro” styling and the intention is that you’ll leave them rolled up.

Armor for the knees and hips is included. The knee armor can be adjusted around inside of its cloth pocket so you can adjust it for up/down and side to side.

If you like this “raw” denim style, and you want to ride in jeans, these will give you long wear and good protection. And I must say the price seems very reasonable, especially when compared to some of the more exclusive brands that sell jeans like this for twice as much. :: Paul, 10-09-18
