REV'IT! Tornado 2 Pants (SOLD OUT)

We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and developed the table below to help you choose a size that is right for you. The waist sizes we are showing are a bit smaller than what REV’IT! publishes in their literature (just an FYI) and a bit smaller than you might expect if you were choosing the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

These pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, so we’ve included inseam lengths in the chart as well. The pants have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length). Velcro allows you to set the armor in different spots and you can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position seems best. Neat!

Also, the pants have an adjustable strap arrangement at the waist to help you fine tune the fit. We are showing a three inch range which was about what the adjusters seemed to do.

Measurement tips: You’ll want to measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles (so relying just upon the size jeans you buy might result in motorcycle pants that are too small). Right below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement.

Use as overpants: These pants will likely be used as both overpants over street clothes or as pants over underwear or shorts because many riders will be wearing these in the heat of summer. Since the waist of these pants is relatively high (as discussed above) the waist will ride above the waist line of normal jeans and therefore, I don’t think you will want to up-size with the idea of using them as overpants. But, I would advise that if you are pushing the upper limit of a size or you are between sizes, to choose the larger.

We just received our inventory of both the Airwave 2 pants and the Tornado 2 pants. I’ve been busy measuring these pants and happily, the sizing is consistent between both models. And since I see that the features of both are VERY similar, I thought I’d let you know about both models in one write-up.

These pants both have an outer shell that is a combination of textile material and mesh. And since a good bit of the pant is mesh, they’ll flow a lot of air in summer, and can be used comfortably during the hottest times of the year. The Tornado 2 includes a removable, windproof/waterproof liner than can be used for cooler weather and or wet weather. The Airwave 2 pants don’t have the liner. So consider the Airwave 2 pants for use in moderate to hot weather and the Tornado 2 pants for even cooler temps… let’s say cool weather. Of course layering with your own clothing under either of these pants would extend their usable temp ranges even further.

Stylistically, these two styles are made to match up with their respective jackets. If you look at the closeup pictures, you’ll see the weave size on the mesh materials is a bit different. You COULD mix and match the two jacket/pant combos, but there will be a bit of a visual difference between those mesh materials. Not a big deal for most, but worth a mention. Our close-up pictures should give you a good sense for this issue.

The pants both are equipped with knee and hip armor. The knees are fitted with molded CE armor and the height of the armor in the pant leg is adjustable. And the hips have a very thin and flexible armor, so those should be very comfortable to wear.

At the bottom of the pant leg, there is a zipper that opens up to about 14” from the bottom. That MIGHT be enough to help pull a shoe through, but if you are wearing boots, you’ll need to take them off in order to take the pants off. So these pants aren’t primarily made as an “overpant”, but they could be worn that way. And certainly they’d be appropriate to wear just as pants over underwear (which would be ideal for hot summer days).

Both styles are set up to be used with the Strapper Suspenders. If you are a suspenders fan, then grab a set of those, and attach them. You can attach the jacket to the pants with or without the suspenders. And if you wanted to use these pants with any other jacket, the suspenders would be a good option (since you won’t have a compatible zipper in your jacket). Lots of options here!

So for spring, summer and fall, you’ll really like these two pant options. And of course the quality of materials and tailoring are there too. Highly recommended. :: Paul, 03-09-16
