Sizing Information

We find TCX boots to be very consistent in fit from one model to the next. We checked this boot and it too is consistent with other models. To choose a size, please click here to see the TCX size chart. The general width of TCX is “medium” or D to E. To compare to other brands you may have experience with, I’d say the overall fit is somewhere between a Sidi boot which is generally a bit more narrow and an Alpinestars boot which has a more generous width.

Our Two Cents

The TCX X-Helium is the mid-level MX boot from TCX.

The X-Helium features a Michelin MX Hybrid Sole that is designed to pull double duty as an all out MX sole for when you’re sending it and still give you enough traction to be mobile if you need to push the bike through some slippery stuff. The sole is relatively smooth on the outer side and has more grip on the medial side. The grip and small heel should give you good contact with your pegs and still allow for sliding. The “triangular micro-sculptures tread” is pretty neat, it reminds me of the texture of some aggressive pegs.

Overall the boot is very well constructed, as expected from TCX. The inner lining is breathable so you can keep cool and the reinforcements are what you would expect in a mid-level MX boot. The heel, toe, and ankle are protected with polyurethane and they are very stiff. The next level up, the TCX Comp EVO 2 Michelin Boots, offer a little more flexibility in the ankle. The X-Helium has a shin plate and steel toe cap for even more protection.

The aluminum buckles are easy to adjust and set to a good fit for you and if you somehow break one they are replaceable. The medial side has a suede heat guard as well.

The TCX X-Helium is a great mid-level boot for the MX rider who wants comfort and protection without breaking the bank! :: Mike, 05/02/2022
