Sizing Information

This jacket offers two removable liners (a windproof shell and an insulated inner-liner), so naturally the jacket fits tighter with the liners installed. Tour Master offers a size chart for this jacket which lists an estimated chest size for each jacket size. The overall fit of the jacket with the liners installed will fit best on a person with a chest size at the lower end of the range, but with the liners removed, the jacket will accomodate a person whose chest is at the upper end of the range.

My advice would be to take a chest measurement and pick the size where your chest measurement falls. For most people, this will correspond to the size they normally wear in women’s clothing. If you are between sizes, consider my comments about the liners and choose based on whether you think you’ll be using the jacket mostly with or without liners. If you plan on using the jacket mostly without the liners, then choose the smaller, but for use with the liners most of the time, then choose bigger.

You’ll also want to compare measurements for waist and hip to make sure the size you choose will work all around.

Sleeve lengths listed are from the shoulder seam to the end of the arm cuff.

Our Two Cents

The very first thing I note about the new Intake Air 4.0 jacket as compared to the previous version is that this one has a feminine cut to it! That is great news since the 3.0 version was more or less cut similar to the men’s version, but just smaller. Functionally, this jacket is the same as the men’s jacket however, so allow me to repeat and embellish some comments from the review I just completed for the men’s jacket:

This jacket design starts with a full mesh shell, but then adds a “dual liner” system to give you more climate control options than a basic mesh jacket.

The basic shell of the jacket is largely full mesh, which will flow a lot of air and will be great during the hot summer months of the year. The blow-through action of the mesh shell provides plenty of air AND you get the benefit of having the sun off your skin as well. In my opinion, the use of a full-mesh jacket is actually better than nothing at all (in the comfort department), and certainly a lot better than nothing in terms of protection in case of an accident. But in addition to the full-mesh action, this style includes two removable liners to help extend the jacket’s comfort range into cooler weather or wet weather. We found that the jacket works well with the thermal liner OR the rain liner. So, for example, in cooler and/or wet weather you can put in both liners. If it is just cool outside, try just the thermal liner. And if it is warm, but possibly wet, then install just the rain liner. After some experimentation, you’ll figure out what works best for you.

The jacket comes equipped with removable CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows, and a removable triple-density back protector. To account for the varying fit of the jacket with the liners installed or removed, the jacket comes with some adjustments… elastic panels on each side of the the waist, sleeve tightening straps, and Velcro at the sleeve ends, all of which you can use to fine tune the fit. There is a rear connection zipper in the jacket for attachment to Tour Master pants. The zipper also comes with the mating half that can be sewn into the pants of your choice. Be sure and take the “View Larger Images” link above to see some good close-ups of this jacket and its features.

With the new styling and feminine cut of the jacket for women, and the very versatile style, this is a very nice jacket for sure. :: Paul, 06-04-15
