Sizing Information

Most Firstgear gloves have a typical “American” fit much like other US based brands of gloves we sell such as Tour Master and Olympia. But this insulated glove feels a bit snug as compared to other FirstGear gloves in the same size. It’s mostly the insulation in the glove that snugs it up and I’m sure they’ll loosen with some use. I would still recommend you buy the size you normally wear in gloves, but if you are sometimes between sizes, I’d advise the larger.

Our Two Cents

FirstGear’s Outrider glove is an all leather full-gauntlet glove for colder weather use. The gloves have ample armor features too.

I’m reviewing this Outrider glove at the same time as the Axiom. So what’s the difference? Basically, the Outrider uses leather on the palm AND the back of the hand rather than textile on the back of the hand on the Axiom. Also, the Outrider has hard plastic palm slider armor pieces to improve the crash protection when you go down hands first. Also, the raised padded areas on the gauntlet are more substantial than on the Axion. Bottom line? The Outrider is more of a “sport” oriented winter glove and the Axiom has less protective features and is more geared toward the everyday street rider.

Here are some other features common to both: Over the knuckle is a D3O protector with a leather color and a trim of reflective piping. The knuckle protector is the “floating” kind so when you make a fist, it flexes easily. The D3O layer is molded to fit your knuckles and it is very comfortable.

The insulation level on these gloves is “medium” so they’ll be best for mild to cold weather. A waterproof interior liner is included to make the gloves waterproof. The gauntlet is widely adjustable with a Velcro tab so you’ll be able to situate the glove gauntlet over or under your jacket sleeve. At the wrist is a smaller Velcro tab to keep the gloves securely on your hand.

One minor design “fail” is the visor wiper on the left index finger. It looks like they sewed in on backward so it wraps over the finger rather than sticks out away from the finger to be able to wipe. It “sort of” works though. The Outrider feels pretty good and offers a good deal of protection for more sport oriented riding. The price is reasonable too. These gloves are available for both men and women. At the time of this review, I don’t have the women’s glove for photos, but it is virtually identical to the men’s version, so please take the link below to see the photos of the men’s glove.

FirstGear says: Specifically designed for women riders, the Women’s Outrider is the ‘just right’ glove for long adventures or short trips with protection from rubbing and vibration without compromising total control or feel of your grips and levers. Features touch-sensitive panels for thumb and index fingertips, there’s no need to remove your glove to use your phone.
