Our Two Cents
For 2021 Cortech has introduced new sport/race boots for both men and women. The Apex RR boot is offered in an “Air” version and a waterproof version. The Air version uses perforated material to allow for some airflow where the waterproof version includes an integrated waterproof liner for use in wet weather. Both men’s and women’s sizes/colors are available in both versions. Take the links below to view the other version/gender.
Cortech sport and racing boots have always been “entry level” priced, and in past years, it was easy for me to tell the boots were inexpensive (dare I say cheap). The overall “shape” of the boots was not tailored well like higher-end brands such as Sidi, but I have to give credit where credit is due… this new 2021 version looks very nice to me. They fit my foot and ankle much more closely and have a very nice overall cut to them. The materials look better too… the microfiber uppers appear very much like more expensive brands. Like nearly all other sport/race boots, these offer the side zipper with a Velcro tab at the top. The Velcro tab on this boot offers quite a bit of adjustability for fit on the calf, and like Alpinestars boots, the zipper end has a Velcro tab to positively hold the zipper up (a simple thing, but nice to have).
The armor components feel very good too. The toe and heel areas are well reinforced and the armor units for the shin and on each side of the ankle bone fit the body well and are very substantial feeling. The sole is trim but reasonably stiff and the replaceable toe sliders look good too. And I detect nothing “funky” about the overall fit; all is well!
Choose between the boots to fit your climate. Obviously, if you ride some in wet weather, you’ll want a waterproof boot. If you are fair weather and/or hot weather rider, you’ll like the “Air” version. I really can’t help but compliment this boot. For the money, it really looks good to me. :: Paul, 02-17-21
