Trilobite Rally Jacket

The Rally jacket fits a little small as compared to normal US jackets. With the removable liners removed it fits pretty true to normal sizing but with the liners and armor in place it fits small… I’d estimate 1/2 to one full size small. For most people, I’d suggest you choose one size larger than you usually wear, if you are between sizes, I’d suggest choosing the larger.

The sleeve and body length on these jackets is about average. Taller folks and/or those who sometimes wear tall sizes probably won’t like the sleeve length, but average height riders will be OK with the fit.

To make size selection easier, we’ve developed the chart below to help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements. If you have a bit of a belly, just make sure that the vest you choose will be big enough for both your chest and belly.

Note: if you plan to add a back protector to this jacket, then add 1” to the chest/belly measurements before choosing a size.

This Rally jacket by Trilobite is a nice touring style with a full featured climate control package. It has unique styling with the denim panels on the shoulders and elbows combined with a waxed cotton style fabric.

Trilobite as written a very good and mostly complete description of all the nuts and bolts of this style below, so I’ll skip most of that and tell you what else I see that is unique and different. The shell of the jacket is mostly a dark waxed cotton material with denim on the shoulders and on the elbows (you can see this in the pictures). The denim reinforcement is pretty special… it is woven with Aramid fibers to increase its abrastion resistance and it is also coated on the back side with a waterproofing material (Trilobite sells a lot of reinforced denim jeans, so I’m sure this jacket employs technology they’ve developed in the jeans). The waxed cotton should also have some water resistance. So taken together, I’d characterize the shell as “water resistant”.

To make the jacket waterproof, there is a traditional removable liner that can be installed on the inside. In addition to the waterproof layer, there is also a vest type thermal layer. That thermal layer can be worn under the jacket with or without the waterproof layer. The two layer setup is often used for touring styles where a jacket might be used in a wide range of temps and conditions.

To make the jacket more usable in hot weather, there is some front venting… one long one on the chest and also long zips on the sleeves. The back has one wide horizontal zip. With all the zips open and the liners take out, this jacket should work pretty well in warmer weather. In hot weather it will get uncomfortable, so I’d say it is solidly a three season jacket… maybe even 3 1/2 season.

The Rally comes with a four piece set of armor for the shoulders and elbows. Its pretty thick and the packaging says its Level 1 armor. Their literature says level 2, but it is actually level 1. The overall thickness and construction of the armor looks consistent with armor in other quality jackets, so it looks good to me. The jacket also comes with a pocket for the addition of a back protector. Trilobite says they offer a back pad, but at the time of this writing they had not yet make it available. But we checked and the D3O unit we sell fits just fine. I’d recommend the level one D3O unit for a garment of this weight and thickness. Take the link below to add that back pad.

I can think of about a dozen jackets with a similar feature list as compared to the Rally jacket. But no other jackets we sell have similar styling. So If you like the waxed cotton/denim setup, then go for it. For the feature list and overall build quality, this seems like a good value. :: Paul, 11-27-18

All zippers on Rally jacket are high quality YKK. The main closure in front is made with YKK thick teeth zipper and Velcro flap. Collar and sleeve rims in leather give this jacket a gentle look. All the flaps and edges are lined with a comfy soft touch fabric.
