Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit very well. Finding a fit in this style won’t be difficult. The overall style is simple and the jacket is fairly relaxed in fit. I’d advise you choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

You can also use the chart below to choose a size based upon your chest and/or belly/waist measurements. I added an estimated “max belly” measurement too. Like I said above, this is a relaxed style so most people won’t have trouble with the belly size (like they might with a trim sport style), but if you have a bit of a belly it wouldn’t hurt to put a tape around it and make sure you are OK with the size you’ve chosen.

Size Max Chest Max Belly Sleeve Length (from center of collar in back)
Small 36-38 36 32
Medium 38-42 38 33
Large 42-44 42 34
XL 44-46 44 35
XXL 46-48 46 36
XXXL 48-50 48 37

Our Two Cents

The Phalanx jacket from Scorpion is their “standard” street/sport textile jacket. I tried on the size XL and it fit just like other XL short waist jackets in the Scorpion line. Those who have owned a prior Scorpion style or who have tried on some things recently will appreciate the consistency of fit throughout the lineup… I know as a seller of apparel, I sure do!

The material used for the shell is “water resistant” and will probably shed enough water to get you through a light shower, but the design is not waterproof, so those that frequently ride in rain will want to get a good rain suit. But remember, making a jacket waterproof takes special materials and adds to the complexity. And also, some jackets that are waterproof wind up being hotter in the summer. This jacket, being an overall lighter jacket and not having the rainproof mid-liner will be comfortable in warmer temps. The jacket has a couple zip vents on the side of the torso under the arm and also a couple in back. I’ll have to pan the placement of the side zippers since the air blast while moving forward won’t be inclined to just flow right through, but nevertheless, they’ll do some good. Why not put them up front somewhere? Beats me. In cooler weather, you can use the jacket’s vest-type thermal liner to retain some heat. So overall, I’d recommend this jacket for all but extremes in temperature.

The jacket has CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows which is soft and comfortable, and a foam back pad. There is a CE upgrade for the jacket’s back armor made of the same material as the shoulder and elbow armor (see below). Storage consists of two zippered hand warmer pockets and one inside zippered breast pocket. We find the nighttime reflectives on this jacket to be better than average. If you take the “View Larger Images” link above, you’ll see some good shots of those reflectives and the other features of this style. :: Paul, 11-28-16
