Sizing Information

Generally speaking, Olympia gear will work best on those with larger builds and/or people who like their clothing to fit more casually. In contrast, our European brands fit more snug and trim (REVIT, Alpinestars are examples). We tried a size Medium jacket on Huey and an XL on Dewey (our Fit Check mannequins) and they fit just fine. You can see some shots of how they look by clicking the “View Larger Images” link above.

Olympia’s standard size chart reflects the generous sizing for jackets on the larger end of the spectrum, but we think it understates the size of the smaller jackets. To make size selection easier, we’ve developed the chart below to help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements. If you find yourself between sizes in the chart, I’d advise going with the smaller due to the generally generous cut of the jacket.

Jacket Size Max Chest Max Belly
Small 40 38
Medium 43 41
Large 45 43
XL 48 46
XXL 51 49
XXXL 54 51
XXXXL 58 56

Our Two Cents

Olympia’s Durham jacket is their lower cost full-waterproof jacket for street riders. Its construction will work best for cold, cool and/or wet weather. The styling is neutral and will appeal to a wide range of street riders.

I just reviewed Olympia’s Newport jacket, which is a mesh style, and I found it to be a great hot weather jacket for a great price. And this Durham, falls into the same category for value, but it will work for those who ride in colder and/or wet weather. This jacket comes with the same armor system as most other Olympia jackets which is quite nice. The shoulder and elbow armor is CE rated and the back pad is too. Some brands require an upgrade to get a decent back pad, but this one looks pretty good to me.

I mentioned that this one will work in cold weather well. It includes a very nice removable full-sleeve thermal liner and when installed adds a very decent insulation layer. And the outer shell is a solid textile style with a waterproof mid-layer built in between the outer shell and inner lining. Those layers will work great to block a cold wind and insulate as well.

The shell of the jacket has larger zip vents in front and also has two rear exhaust vents. Those vents will move some air and make the jacket more comfortable when it gets warmer, but the fixed rain liner behind those vents will make them only marginally effective. That is why I’ve mentioned that this one will be best for mild to cold weather use. The advantage to the fixed rain liner is the lower cost and its effectiveness in keeping water out. Since it is a full liner with no openings for air flow, etc, there is not much opportunity for leakage.

The overall style of this jacket is somewhere between a full touring style and a shorter waisted sport style, so I think just about any street rider will like it. :: Paul, 11-07-17
