Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

If you look at Icon’s chest size estimates for each jacket, you might be choosing a size larger than you normally wear (example a person with a 46 chest typically is an XL, but using Icon’s chart you’d buy an XXL). Icon’s styling has always been sort of loose as compared to other brands’ sport style jackets. This probably explains why the size chart understates the chest size range for any given alpha jacket size.

My personal advice for a good fit that is snug enough not to flap or inflate while riding would be to buy the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. We’ve added a column to the table below to give you our estimate of max chest and belly size for each jacket size. If you prefer a loose fit, then Icon’s estimates would be appropriate.

I find the taper from chest to waist to be pretty “relaxed” and therefore belly size won’t be a problem for most. But if you have a bit of a belly, you’ll want to get a measurement and make sure to choose a jacket large enough to work.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Chest Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 38-40 38
Medium 38-40 40-42 40
Large 40-42 42-44 42
XL 42-44 44-46 44
XXL 46-48 46-48 46
XXXL 48-50 48-50 48
XXXXL 52-54 52-54 52

Our Two Cents

Icon’s Raiden DKR Monochromatic wateproof jacket is a full-featured adventure style jacket. It’s a waterproof shell, with a removable thermal liner and direct venting through the shell to the body which means this jacket will be a good one for a very wide range of temps. Armor is included.

The “monochromatic” part of the description refers to the styling of this jacket. Its offered in a black or grey with minimal branding. this styling was introduced after the “original” Raiden DKR jacket which was decidedly more “loud” with the colors and bodging. Most other gear offered in the Adventure segement these days is of a more toned-down style so this new offering from Icon work well.

The shell of this jacket is a waterproof laminated fabric so the waterproofing membrane is integral to the nylon shell material. That means there is no separate internal waterproof lining. The advantage is that the shell of your jacket doesn’t get waterlogged, but rather repels water. Also, the zippered venting on this jacket allows air to flow directly through to your body which is much more effective than zip venting on jackets with a separate lining. We offer higher-end jacket with this same concept, but with a GoreTex bonded shell, most notably from Klim.

Speaking of venting, this jacket has a good deal of it. I see two large chest slash vents and two long zip vents on the sides that extend under the arm and down the sleeve part way. And then there is a large horizontal vent in back to let air escape and to also reduce the possibility of inflation of the jacket at higher speeds. For colder weather use, this jacket has a full sleeve thermal liner. And its a better one than most. It has mesh panels in it that allow air to flow through the vents. This will be useful to help the interior expel moisture in cooler temps when you are using the liner, but might otherwise get a little sweaty. With this setup, you can crack open some vents and stay cool and dry.

You get a complete set of armor inserts by D3O which is Icon’s “go to” brand of armor. The armor is ideal for a jacket like this since it is soft and flexible and comfortable. Some other nice features is see are: the main zipper storm flap secures with hidden magnets, which makes is quick and easy to get to the zipper as compared to a setup with a long Velcro strip to do the same job. Also, that main zipper is a “two way” type so you can zip open from the bottom up when you are sitting on the bike to allow the jacket to lay open on your lap. This is a nice feature for a longer jacket like this. I also some some “fixtures” for the routing of a hydration tube. There are a couple straps on the shoulders and one clip on the front of the jacket help wrangle the tube. This will work well with a backpack hydration bladder (we don’t carry the Icon Hydration Pack product originally sold with this style jacket. It didn’t work all that well and a backpack style will work better here). :: Paul, 05-04-18

Icon says: The RAIDEN DKR Jacket has been designed for hardcore dual sport riding by hardcore dual sport riders. The HYCOR waterproof /breathable construction is Dupont Teflon® coated with complete seam sealing. Vent zippers have been relocated to avoid moisture buildup but still provide maximum airflow. The main zipper features a gusset and a magnetic storm flap, and we’ve made the Thermolite® liner thicker, but with TechMesh® panels built in for more efficient core regulation and more athletic fit. The RAIDEN DKR Jacket’s HYCOR chassis provides all the waterproofness and crashability but with less fatigue during extended rides. Removal of excess snaps, zippers and pulls further decreases the weight of the garment and enables an enhanced fit.
