Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. Both jackets fit, but there wasn’t a lot of room for error in both the waist and chest. This style has a bit more of a trim fit through the shoulders and chest than most Icon jackets. We generally advise people to buy the size they normally wear in men’s clothing, and I’d stick with that advice on this style as well IF you like a trim fit and you have an average or thinner frame. If you like more room and/or you have a more stout build, then I’d advise you to go up one size.

Below is the size chart offered by Icon and in the case of this style, I’d say it is just about right. If you measure and use the chart you may well find yourself buying one size larger than usual.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 34
Medium 38-40 36
Large 40-42 38
XL 42-44 40
XXL 46-48 44
XXXL 48-50 46

Our Two Cents

The Icon 1000 Basehawk jacket takes the riding hoody to a new level folks! This jacket has a stretch frame with leather reinforcements and a full set of armor. You’ll get the hoody style, but also get the protection!

The shell of this jacket is a stretch fabric. It feels kind of like a very thick warm-up jacket material. Of course it is very comfortable to wear and moves with you easily. The shoulders and elbows have leather over them which will improve the abrasion resistance characteristics in those crash prone areas. You’ll find a cord inside the bottom hem of the jacket so you can snug down the fit and keep out the drafts. The sleeve ends have monkey paw loops too. And of course you have the hood. The whole package feels and fits like a nice hoody, but then has the crash protection characteristics. The shell is also “water resistant” which will work to keep you dry in light rain (but this isn’t for hard core touring in all day rain).

You get a complete set of armor inserts by D3O which is Icon’s “go to” brand of armor. The armor is ideal for a jacket like this since it is soft and flexible and comfortable. So there will be nothing else to buy to make this jacket fully protective.

This jacket has very good venting and so you’ll be able to wear it in warmer months on all but the hottest days. There are a total of six vents… two on the chest, two on the sleeves and then two pit vents. The chest vents actually double as pockets too. Inside are two big patch pockets and a tech pocket with a pass through for your headphones. The entire inside of the jacket is lined with black nylon mesh so the vented air will easily pass through to your body. :: Paul, 05-08-18

Icon says: The blurred line of a cipher, the Basehawk™ is a fully-outfitted motorcycle garment hidden within a chassis with more casual leanings. A four-way stretch softshell chassis says hoodie, but the ballistic nylon, select-grain leather panels, and a full D3O® impact protector suite say otherwise. In like a ghost, out like a banshee – the ICON 1000 Basehawk Jacket.
