Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 52 and Dewey is in a 56) and they both look great. The overall fit is larger than most Dainese jackets so the fit is easy, even for those that want a more “American” fit.

This product is sold in European sizes. This jacket follows the usual Euro to US conversion where the US chest size is equivalent to 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. To choose a size in this jacket, I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector add 1” to your measured chest and belly size. And if you plan to add the chest protectors, add an additional 1” to your chest measurement before using the size chart.

The overall cut of this particular style jacket is more relaxed than nearly every other style in the Dainese line. Those with a more stocky build and/or a belly will really like this style. A longer torso jacket like this looks equally good on skinny guys too because it has side torso adjusters that will take up the excess size around the middle.

Our Two Cents

The Dainese X-Tourer D-Dry Jacket is new for 2019. It is a fully featured longer style favored by touring riders and adventure riders. This jacket has two removable liners and fantastic venting features too so it can work in all seasons.

Of all the jackets I’ve reviewed so far for the 2019 season, this style is the most “American” cut of the group. It fits much like Tour Master, Olympia and other US brands that typically have more room in them. Most other Dainese styles are more trim cut which is a characteristic of European makers. The shell of this jacket is a traditional solid textile jacket design, but with very LARGE vents on the front, sleeves, and back. The vents on the chest and back are really slick. They are made with zip down panels that tuck down in out of the way when opened. And when closed, the vent panels “pop” into place with magnets built into the jacket shell and flaps. When you raise the zippers, they practically secure themselves. I think it is a super slick setup. The sleeve ends have LONG two way zippers. When you zip down from the top, two long zip vents are exposed to the wind.

The zip vents in the jacket will allow lots of airflow in warmer months, but in colder weather and/or wet weather you can use the included removable liners. There is a full waterproof liner for the wet weather and then there is an insulated liner too. That insulated liner has a front zipper arrangement that is used to zip it into the jacket OR it will zip to itself so you can use the thermal liner when you are off the bike. (sometimes called a “destination liner”). Removable liners are a necessity to create an all season jacket, but having the ability to use the liner off the bike is a real plus for those on the open road. It keeps you from having to pack another jacket which can save you some trouble and space in your luggage.

The armor included in the shoulders and elbows very robust but comfortable. It’s a hard plastic and foam type typically found in race suits and jackets. The elbow armor extends all the way down the forearm to give great coverage. For optional back and chest armor, this jacket is set up with pockets built into the inside liner. The back armor pocket takes either of the two back pads listed below. For a jacket that has significant venting option on the chest and back, I’d steer you toward the Pro-Armor unit allows air to flow through it. You can also add chest armor (also listed below) and I’d also recommend the Pro-Armor unit for the chest, again for the best airflow. With the full set of armor in this jacket, it is a FULLY ARMORED jacket.

I see a couple of features that are fairly unique here: The collar is the standard “mandarin” style, but it has a side adjuster. It’s a strap with a Velcro close. You can use that strap to snug the collar down around the neck in cold weather or when it rains. And since you may or may not have the liners installed, it gives a quick way to get a good seal either way. Another nice feature is the main zipper. It starts about six inches above the bottom hem of the jacket so when you sit on the bike, you can unbutton the bottom button and allow the tail of the jacket to lay over your lap. That keeps the front of the jacket from bunching up in front of you. Some jackets have a “two way” zipper to accomplish the same thing, but this does the trick without the additional complexity

I really like this style of jacket. It really does seem like it would work in nearly any conditions. It might get a bit hot in the heat of summer, but as long as you are moving, it should be tolerable. :: Paul, 05-16-19
