Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 52 and Dewey is in a 58) and they both look great. The overall fit is snug as compared to most European sized jackets we offer. Normally we’d put our mannequins in a 52 and 56.

This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. But since this jacket style runs a bit more snugly, we recommend buying one size larger, add about 12 points to your US chest size to get the right Euro size. I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector and/or chest pads add 1” to your measured chest/belly size before using the size chart.

The overall cut of this particular style jacket is very much in line with many Dainese sport jacket styles. The max belly is about 4” smaller than the max chest which is about what we expect.

Our Two Cents

The Dainese Speed Master D-Dry Jacket is a great, sport-oriented textile riding jacket with a removable waterproof liner. This jacket has excellent armor in the shoulders and elbows and you can add chest and back armor too.

Here’s one of Dainese’s “go to” styles for the everyday street rider. The overall styling is sport, but this jacket could work for any style rider. The fit is trim, but not too restrictive like a full-sport jacket might fit. This jacket has a textile shell which is light weight a functional. The shell has zippered vents on the front torso area and also has a couple of vertical zippers on the back of the body. The zip vents will help you take this jacket into warmer temps. For cooler and/or wet weather, you close the vents and zip in the rainproof liner. The liner will keep you dry in rain, and in cooler weather will give a “windproof” layer. If you use the liner along with some of your own insulating clothes, you could use this jacket down into pretty cold temps.

The removable liner also has a dual purpose. The zippers that fix it into the jacket are set up to become the main zipper of the liner if you use it off the bike. If you were traveling, you could use the liner as a casual jacket and so it would reduce your need to pack something else to wear. If you happen to take the liner off while riding, there is a fanny pouch on the back of the jacket which you can use to store it away.

The armor included in the shoulders and elbows of this jacket is nice stuff. It consists of a hard plastic shell bonded to a firm foam backing. The armor is thin but very substantial. It fixes into the jacket with Velcro, so it holds in place well, but it is also slightly adjustable for position. This style of armor is lighter more “airy” than molded rubber styles.

This jacket also has provisions to install optional chest and back armor. We’ve listed the options below for both the back and chest. There are two designs of each, and both will fit this jacket. For this jacket, I’d steer you toward the Manis D1 and the Double Chest units. Those are most like the armor style in this jacket. The Pro-Armor units are generally best for mesh jacket styles.

Overall, this is a nice jacket that will serve the purpose for many style riders. :: Paul, 08-16-19
