Sizing Information

We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 52 and Dewey is in a 58) and they both look great. The overall fit is snug as compared to most European sized jackets we offer. Normally we’d put our mannequins in a 52 and 56.

This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. But since this jacket style runs a bit more snugly, we recommend buying one size larger, add about 12 points to your US chest size to get the right Euro size. I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector and/or chest pads add 1” to your measured chest/belly size before using the size chart.

The overall cut of this particular style jacket is very much in line with many Dainese sport jacket styles. The max belly is about 4” smaller than the max chest which is about what we expect.

Our Two Cents

The Dainese Racing 3 D-Dry jacket offers a great alternative for those wanting the look, fit and armor protection on par with a sport leather jacket, but in a package that can hold up to inclement weather.

The shell of this jacket is made of a slightly stretchy heavy duty textile material. It reminds me of the Shoeller Keprotec material I’ve seen used as flexible panels in the sleeves and crotch of race suits. Its tough but flexible and slightly stretchy and holds up well to abrasion. The shell is treated to be water resistant and then the jacket is lined with a waterproof/breathable liner to block moisture that might come through the shell, so consider this jacket to be a water proof style. The construction over the main zipper is very robust with a double flap closure to keep water from coming through.

The jacket has zippered venting in the shoulders, biceps an back and with those zippers open, you can get some air flow through the jacket. But consider that those vents only allow air to enter the shell, but don’t allow air to pass through the waterproof liner, so the venting will not be suitable for not summer use. For colder weather, this jacket comes with a very nice full sleeve thermal liner. With the liner zipped in, it should be great for cold weather. So overall, I’d suggest this style for temps ranging from cold to warm (but not hot) and/or wet weather.

One feature that is sharp and functional is the elasticated bars on the back and above the elbows. If you take a look at the larger pictures you’ll see a band of raised fabric strips. They look like decoration at first glance but those are backed with elastic and so when you reach forward to the bars, you’ll have extra room across your back. In trying on the jacket, it really works well along with the stretch fabric inserts.

Notice the external armor on the shoulders… its quite the work of art really. It looks like leather bonded to a hard plastic under-layer which surrounds the metallic piece in the middle. This fits well over the regular shoulder armor which fits underneath. The whole thing really looks sharp and adds a an extra layer of impact armor in a critical area.

You can add armor in the back and in the chest if you like. We recommend the Manis D1 G back protector and the Double chest 2 Piece chest armor. With the full set of armor in this jacket, it is a FULLY ARMORED jacket.

I really think this jacket fits a certain niche with the wet weather construction along with the sport jacket styling and armor add-ons. Its a very nice package. :: Paul, 08-07-18

Dainese says: A sport fit featuring waterproof D-DRY inner membrane, Cordura comfort fabric and lightweight aluminum shoulder plates. Ready for every challenge and all weathers. Air intakes on the shoulders, sleeves and back add vital cooling. An incorporated D-Dry Z-liner membrane keeps water out and a removable thermal lining defeats winter weather. So riders can just get in the saddle and own the road.
